A lot of the people on here seem to talk like they have unlimited means to buy guns, which got me wondering....

How old is everyone?
What kind of job do you have?
Married/single/family?

Leave it to a girl on here to try to find out more about who you people are besides just a screen name. :p

I'm into target shooting, which, even if one buys a LOT of toys, is both cheaper than golf or bass fishing, and a much better long-term investment.

Well, heck, I guess I'll start off.

32 years old, 33 next month
I work at FedEx, where I work part time as a package handler
I'm engaged and have a son with my ex-wife (he resides with her in Maine)

Between rent, truck, loans, and child support, I've been selling more guns than buying lately, but that'll hopefully change soon.

Oops, wrong intro. :D

I am going to college right now (well, not right this minute) and I will have my associates next year.
I have a C&R, so that does help keep costs down.
I bought most of my guns back when I was working full time, so that is how I got them.
Right now, I really want a FAL.
I am going to have to get creative to be able to afford one.

I'm 30, married, and I work as a mid-level computer consultant. Low-middle class neighborhood, no kids yet, two dogs, two cars.

I'd have tons of money for guns if:

I had no car payments, mortgage, home equity loan payments, and wasn't fixing up my house for the past three years.

I do have more than 20 firearms in my collection at present, but I bought the majority of them in my 20's when I was single. I have since then slowed down considerably.

My last purchase was over 6 months ago, a Schmidt Rubin K31 with my C&R collectors license, and even then I couldn't afford to stock up on the relatively scarce 7.5 swiss ammo.

Lately, I've only been getting 1-2 guns a year for the past 2-3 years now. I've just refinanced the mortgage, and both our car payments end within the next year, so perhaps things will pick up then. :D

I've come to realize having money for lots of gun stuff or other hobby money isn't really about "being rich" or having a high-paid job, but more about staying out of debt with the exception of "good/unavoidable debt" like your mortgage. If you do things like save up for what you want instead of using credit cards, buy used cars that are 2-3 years old but still look nice and pretty new for cash etc. you'll have plenty of money for a nice house/mortgage and guns.

When you get into debt you wind up paying 3-4 times the value of whatever it is you purchased, and it takes you 5-10 times longer to pay it off than doing without and saving up would have gotten you in the first place.

I'm thirty-five, married for thirteen years and we have two kids. I'm a cop.
My gun money is earned from working "special events i.e. security" during my off duty hours. I make overtime (the promoters pay for this since they are using City facilities) and this money goes into a savings account. My paycheck goes to the family.
I usually buy two guns a year, but only when I have enough cash. Last year I bough a gunsafe - no guns.I'm going to a gunshow tomorrow. :D

45 going on 26. Married (2nd time but I got it right this time). She has 2 kids, 1 at home but not for long. 4 dogs, variable number of cats. All vehicles are paid for. No bills outside of utilities. No credit debt. I work as a senior sysadmin on a project for the FedGov/ICE/DOJ and make what I consider to be 'quite adequate' money.

I've only bought 3 firearms this year, 2 MN44's (one for her) and a very nice Stg58. I'm being a little more particular on what I buy these days... mostly very nice milsurps. Next new purchase will likely be a 1911 the wife wants. I seem to be able to buy anything I want when I want to especially since I quit buying every old Volkswagen and motorcycle I stumbled upon.

Regards,

I own a small retail awards company. Most of our extra income goes into working on our 70 year old house and 35 acre farm. We pay cash for all of it and try to do all the work ourselves, so it goes slow.

Gonna be 51 shortly. Trying not to live too vicariously through 15-year old son. Being a firearms instuctor sometimes serves as a good "need" for buying, testing, and/or trading various toys. But ... The Wife said today that our daughter at UT needed another $500 put in her account, so there went the plan for splurging on a new hog huntin' handgun ... For a while anyway. No biggie though. Much more content to have two really good kids. :)

Wife is a assistant mgr for large national chain and I'm more-or-less managing the recieving/shipping for a truck equipment dealer/distributor. Had most of my guns prior to marriage/family but have been able to get a few that were out of my price range prior when there weren't other obligations to attend to first. Those I buy now, I can only afford through the "gun fund" which grows by only 50-60 dollars each paycheck. typically the yearly gun budget runs around $1500-$2000 more depending on bonuses.

Married (happily) 17 years, two teenage daughters (3 wives $$$ ) :)

HFC Network Engineer for a large telecomunications company. Make a decent salary but nothing astronomical, wife works full time as well.

Don't really have any other hobbies or spend money on much of anything else, on me personally I mean, most goes to family stuff. Squirrel away whatever I can out of each check and spend it as I see fit. Was lucky enough to buy several guns this year, along with a new belt and holster, a knife, several flashligts, lots of ammo and a few other accessories. Wow, guess I did spend alot this year, but that is not quite the norm.

47, separated, software engineer

Been away from firearms for about 20 years (although there was always at least one around for SD). When MN CCW finally passed, it caused me to get back into the hobby.

This board has really provided a lot of food for thought. Has prompted me to evaluate security issues, maintain better situational awareness and even to start Muay Thai lessons.

So although I may not chime in much, I'm always interested in the various points of view here.

41 years old, married for 21 years (quite happily, I might add!), with a 17 year old daughter and a 14 year old son, two dogs, two cats, and a whole bunch of fish in the garden ponds.

I am an engineer with a major airline, so there haven't been a lot of gun purchases lately! I keep putting away the pennies, but it will probably be awhile before my next purchase. I finally realized that there was a real need to be able to defend myself and my family about 9 months ago, so that got me "re" started with the interest in guns. Man! It's addictive! I want more now! :D

Girlwithagun, no, we're not all independently wealthy. If you want a particular firearm, you give up something else, save to buy it or sell something you have to buy the new thing. Same as you do for anything else.

I have my C&R (bet you would have never guessed) so I have been picking up about one rifle a month. However, I have recently discovered the Contender, so most of my gun money is going into barrels and reloading components. Other than making loud noises, I was also a pretty decent Bassist/vocalist and still play around abit. Of course that's pretty much making loud noises too.

Because of my job I frequent alot of pawn shops the owners know me and while they don't always give me great deals they do allow me to lay a way for extended periods, usually from 2 to 4 months. Also I rarely buy new a gun like a car loses value as soon as you pay for it.

I'm 33 and have been married for a couple of years now. I have a baby girl and two stepdaughters with my wife. Recent additions to the household include a dog, a cat and a fish - all girls I might add. I work for a major airline so my employment status is always in limbo (or so it seems). Since I was a teenager I have more or less always seemed to acquire two guns per year, one around my birthday in May and one around the holiday season. Sometimes they were gifts, but more often I bought them for myself. I have always bought, sold and traded for newer acquisitions, so my invenotry of toys has always been in flux. As I have made some regretable errors in judgement in the past I have slowed down on selling and trading away my guns and now tend to keep what I have and save up for those "must haves".

Married, 3rd time's the charm.

I have 2 grown children and so does my husband.

He had a HUGE collection when we married, and we agreed that the guns were NOT community property. However, I carry his p-32 when I'm working. His p-11 sits on my computer desk. His Buckmark .22 stays in my Range bag for target practice and plate matches. And one of his .45 ACPs is in my purse designed for concealed carry. They are still his, it's just that I seem to have taken possession of them. But if he wants to borrow one, I'll lend it to him.:neener:

I want to start spending my raise on handguns for my kids and start my OWN collection.

I'm 22 years old tomorrow. I am a full time college student @ the Krannert School of Management, Purdue University. I have a major in Management and a double minor in Economics and Finance. I also work 30 hours/week as a banker. I'm married to a beautiful girl. I will be entering the professional financial advisor (for commercial businesses, not individuals) field very soon. I keep very active by running 7 days/week and boxing 3 days/week. Concerning finances, instead of buying guns I've been spending my money on training. I'll probably spend about $1250 on training before Christmas. Also, after graduation, my wife and I will have enough money to put a down payment on a nice house. Although we will probably still keep saving so that we can get a VERY nice house for our first one. In addition, about a year ago I found it to be no problem to nearly pay cash for a C-Class Mercedes. I have nearly no debt beyond a few modest education loans. My credit card balances are always $0. The most fun thing is that I do not come from a wealthy family by any means. Yay capitalism!

A lot of the people on here seem to talk like they have unlimited means to buy guns, which got me wondering....

HA!

How old is everyone?
What kind of job do you have?
Married/single/family?

48.

Underpaid Geek. You do something I told you not to with your computer, I make it all better.

Married (counts on fingers (yes, you can count to numbers greater than 20 on your fingers)) 26 years, sole support (though the older 3 kids are able to buy their own toys not they're not yet independant) for a family of 7.

So, no, I don't have a great deal of spare cash to spend on guns. I reload .45, .38 and now .40 S&M on a single stage press, in order to afford to shoot more than trivial ammounts of ammo. I go for high value per dollar weapons, and tend to have to save from side jobs for quite a while to get them. That's why I talk about Makarovs, and my Ruger, not about Kimber|SIG|HK|latest custom wonder gun.

-Bought both of my rifles when I was working full time and had some disposable income.

-I can afford to shoot because a) I have 1000s of rounds of .22 and it's cheap to procure more, and; b) I handload for my .308, which cuts the cost immensely, and; c) I make some spare cash on the side by working as an accompanist and playing the occasional gig. I'm a housewife - Susan's support team (a full-time job, that), and I've written my first mystery novel (target audience: lesbian), still waiting to see if a publisher will pick it up (already working on two other stories, too!). Susan and I have been married twelve years (we both went through disastrous straight marriages, first). Susan's a tech in the oil & gas industry in Denver (her day job), and an EMT and VP of our local Rescue service evenings and weekends (to the order of +50 hours a week).

We shoot as often as time and health permits (Susan has a heart condition), study martial arts, and edged weapons. Home is at 9,200 ft in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

We're pro-choice, pro gay rights, pro-gun, against 'the war on drugs' and 'big brother' government. Nearly all of our friends are in emergency services.

28, chronically single, handgun designer.

I get paid fairly well, and work very hard to reduce my debt. I have been paying down my credit cards like a mad man (debt down almost 18k in the last 2 years), but still have a negative net worth. When I am done with that I intend to buy some rental houses, or condos, or some such. The goal is to have enough income from rental properties that I can afford to design what I want to design, instead of designing what the guys in marketing want to design.

Like skunk, I can fit everything except my safe, reloading bench, and bed in the back of my subaru.

I buy 1 or 2 guns a year, and a small mountain of reloading components.

Well, if I gotta, I gotta.

Age 35 as of a month ago, unmarried, no kids, no prospects, no debt, "pseudo-employed" doing sidework to keep in gas, bills, and eats until the economy recovers enough to make people feel rich enough to afford top-end home improvements and/or furniture so I can get a real job. (Unless I tumble onto a backer or win the lottery so's I can open my own shop.)

That also leaves me with a moral dilemma of being a member of a union which is responsible for the highest wages I've ever earned, (Some 60-ish grand/year.) but has a leadership and organization that espouses political ideals that I disagree with on a fundamental level.

I have one 20-year-old Porsche 928 that qualifies as a beater, and a well-used '77 GMC pick-up truck I acquired when some waste of good oxygen stole the Porsche, which has since been recovered in more-or-less undamaged condition. I do all my own maintenance and mechanical work neccessary to keep both tired old beasts running.

I have about sixty guns, which is a lot more than most folks have, as I understand it. No family meant I got to get lots of toys when I was working regularly. (I would probably trade 'em all in for a family in a hot second, though. Being an isolationist gets old.)

Conversely, since being laid off, I went from being cramped by the PRK's one-a-month law to not having purchased a gun in almost two straight years. I think I've been to 2 gun shows in that time, where I would normally have hit 8-10. I don't buy much ammo either. And I shoot a LOT less.

Stupid state. I want my real job back so I don't have to be cheap anymore. Guns are not luxuries, they are neccessities. You hear me, Ah-nuld?

29 years old

Married 3 years

I'm a Technician at a German Car Dealership, my wife works for a State University.

We currently rent an apartment, have 2 Jeeps (Wrangler and Cherokee, both paid for), 1 Black Lab and no children

I don't have unlimited money for guns but I do have a gun budget that allows me to spend an average of $600-700 a month on shooting. SOme months I only spend a couple hundred on ammo other months it's $1300 in new gun. But this has only been the case for about a year now, before that we were paying for my wife's education and I could only spend $50 a month on ammo for the only gun I owned (Ruger P95). So I figure spending the amount on guns and ammo that I do is just making up for the years that she was in Grad school.

And I'm trying to get as many guns as I can before all my money starts going to a house and I can't buy as many guns as I would like.

Got my gun money the old fashioned way....worked my buns off for it restoring Corvettes, street rods, and upper end sports cars (hence the name "Rembrandt"). Each time one was completed, all the proceeds went into a firearm. I can go to the safe and tell you which car bought which gun. Outside of the normal hunting and target firearms, the bulk of the collection is collectible pieces....somewhat partial to highly engraved European guns.

Hoping that I'll be able to buy one this summer, when I'm working full-time at McDonalds and Country Kitchen.

Marital status: Single, for sure. I have a pretty bad crush on a girl I met playing frisbee though. Take it from me, there is _nothing_ sexier than a frisbee-playing girl. Guess I'll wait and see if that works out.

EDITED TO ADD: First post on page six!!! (That's got to count for something...)

33 year old Orthodox Jew. Single (never married), no kids, one really cool cat (until recently one really cool cat and one even cooler cat, but the even cooler cat was put down earlier this year).

Bachelor's of Science in Psychology but with 18 credits of business and economics.

Previously I've been a salesperson, banker and manager. Currently I am a graduate student in counseling (since early summer), and I've been a substitute teacher for 2+ years in order to get experience to help me get into the program I wanted (Ph.D. in school psychology). In order to afford to live as a substitute teacher I've been living with my parents. No rent means I've been able to pick up quite a few guns (hey, once I'm on my own again I'll be lucky to buy more than 2 or 3 a year and when I finally get married, well I've seen the trouble some married guys have trying to talk their wives into letting them buy another- I figure I better buy now while I can).

Anyway, I've decided that there is no way I can deal with 5 or more years of school once I start a doctorate program. Also, after 2+ years as a sub I simply would love a job where I don't have to work with kids, I still love kids, just don't want to work with them anymore. I enjoyed working in business. I will take another semester plus a summer of business and accounting courses and switch fields. Probably financial management or analysis or bank examining, though accounting or consulting is a possibility. However, if I can lose about 50 lbs over the next year I may go into federal law enforcement (Secret Service or US Marshalls Service) or I might go back into the Army (I had a bad ankle which got me discharged nearly 14 years ago, but I've never given up the hope that I might someday try again).

Other hobbies:
-pipe smoking (I blend my own tobacco and I have an impressive collection of pipes, some very cool)
-fishing (don't do nearly enough of it)
-camping (don't do nearly enough of it)
-reading (the one hobby that rivals guns for cost- I buy several books every month)

I will probably have to try to keep my troubleprone 1997 Nissan Sentra alive for at least another year or two in order to make payments on my $50K in student loans (which are currently in deferrment). Once I start paying those again plus rent that will probably seriously cut into my gun, book and pipe purchases.:(

I'm 19, single, own three guns, and work for a local tobacconist. Currently taking time off from college to find some direction in life. Thinking of doing something in the writer/ photographer/ movie industry fields.

Lately, I've been looking at Walther P99s, CZ-52s, ROMAK-3s, but mostly modifications and such for my SAR-1, and the only debt I have is a $21.00 library fine  that's been there for nigh on two years. :uhoh:

I spend most of my time, though, working... working, and thinking about things that either don't exist or don't exist yet. Haven't gone shooting in a couple o' months. Wonder if I can still find where I put my ammo... ;)

Just turned 24, I'm getting old.

I work in semiconductor manufacturing.

Married for almost 3 years now, my wife buys guns too, but I work a lot of overtime to get all of mine!

As an example, I haven't had a raise, but I made more this year as of October, than all of last year, thanks for overtime!

I'm 41. Married almost 12 years. 1 dog. A rat terrier. No kids of my own. Never wanted any. Wife has 3 kids, all adults, and 4 grandchildren. I work at a hospital in Nashville I take care of all the telephones and nursecall systems. We have no debt. Everything is paid for. Wife is a retired school teacher. She started a home business 3 years ago. Custom picture framing. Doing quite well. I bought all but one of my guns in the 80's when I was single and I had my FFL. I gave up my FFL when Clinton got in office and raised the fees. My C & R is on the way, so I will be purchasing more soon.

I'm into IDPA for two years now and love it, mostly into handguns, though I used to be quite a fanatic bird hunter. Just started reloading this year, finding that it dovetails nicely with all the ammo I need for IDPA!;)

Natedog-

Don't hesitate to start out at a fast food joint. I started working at McDonalds (infinitely superior to BK... :D ) when I was 15.5 because they were the only place that would hire me that young. I ended up working there for almost 4 years. I got to work with a lot of fun people, the hours were flexible, it payed well (for a small town) and I got regular raises. I won a $5,000 national employee scholarship contest and got to go to corporate headquarters to meet a bunch of people. I was eventually promoted to shift manager and went to manager school (Basic Shift Management graduate, that's me), so I also got some sort of job skills out of it. On a more practical level, I learned to show up on time, work hard, and have a good attitude. Something a lot of people are still learning even now (I'm almost 21). Those habits have stood me in good stead at my other jobs too. And I have iron clad job references and I can go back there anytime I want.

At your age, it might not be a bad idea to start out there. Sure it's only flipping burgers, but you can still learn a lot and you might enjoy it more than you think.

Well, I'm the latecomer.

I'm Wes. I'm 19 (20 in another month), and I'm taking some time off school. I graduated High School with an Associates Degree, and then rushed off for another year of college. Naturally, I burned out. So, I'm taking some time of to mentally recuperate and pay off the college debts.

Yeah, I'm single. Don't even have a girlfriend. And with my current schedule (going to work, going to bed, ad infinitum...) I'm pretty sure I'm not going to meet anyone, either. :banghead:

Now I'm the monkeyboy that works the information booth at the local events/recreation complex. :uhoh: It's not very fun. In fact, it's boring as hell.

I only have 3 guns, and I *certainly* don't have the means to get any gun that I want. In fact, it'll probably be next summer before I can manage to get another.

And that, sadly, is my life...

I work as a firefighter in a very fast growing community. We struggle to keep up with growth and have the opportunity to work pretty much as much overtime as we can handle.
I have been divorced for years and live in a house that is about the size of the average garage of my co-workers. I spend as much on my pickup truck as my house cost. About the only conventional, grown-up thing I spend money on is my vehicle. I buy a new diesel pickup every 4-5 years. I have a 70 mile commute to work and demand reliable transportation.
So, between the two I usually have the money to spend on my hobby.
I have been "into" guns, shooting, and hunting since early childhood and have been putting together my collection since then. I realized very early on that it is a terrible mistake to sell guns. If I need money I have always been able to find some kind of part time or side job to make it happen or I simply did without.
You don't have to be rich to assemble a good collection. If you have been into guns for over twenty years, just buying one or two a year and not selling them gives you a pretty substantial safe full. However, I have exceeded that by a wide margin.

::checks Palm-Pilot for vital stats::

I'm 30, married, 2 kids ( girl: 11, boy: 8 ) (hers from a previous marriage, so I get to inculcate someone else's progeny with my right-thinking worldview).

I'm a Principal Engineer (Software) for a small-to-midsize beltway bandit.[0]

I have ::counts:: 6 computers in my office, largely because I don't have room to have more than 6.

I'm not just a geek at work; I'm one at home as well. 4 Linux servers (Mail, Web, Chat, and DNS) live in my laundry room. I have 2 DSLs to the house, a copper LAN and a wireless LAN, and lots of X10 remote-stuff so I don't have to get off the couch to turn lights on and off. :D

I drive a big black 4x4, and I wear black clothes pretty much exclusively[1], and I have a black Beretta 96, and a black Mossberg, and a black Win70 7mmRemMag, and a Black Rifle (RRA 20" A2 from a kit), and a black Savage in .22WMR, and a black Taurus PT92, and a black Desert Eagle .44 .

I live on 4 acres of woods in Manassas, Virginia, with my lady-wife and (sometimes -- depending on shared-custody schedules) the kids, and (always) our 6 cats[2].

I'm straight, but (as they say) not narrow, and occasionally shoot with the Northern Virginia Pink Pistols.

I'm pagan, elementalist, having passed through Christianity and come out the other side. (This shall not be taken as an excuse for someone to turn this into a religious thread. We all know how those turn out.)

-BP

[0] Which is hiring software engineers, BTW. If anyone is interested in working in the Northern Virginia area, PM me. We need people. Lots of them.

I work as a techie and my wife is a supervisor for Sara Lee so we make fairly good money. Everything but the house and my truck is paid for so disposable income is easier to come by, of course buying the 11 year old granddaughter a PC took a chunk out of it. What free time is spent being the chief of the local rescue squad which means I don't have a lot of free time. If I could figure out a way of combining the two it would be a big time saver.

I'm a 37 year old software engineer working in Huntsville, AL. I'm married (2nd time) and have a 6 year old son and a 9 year old daughter by my first wife, and a 17 year old step son and a 20 year old step daughter.

I also have 2 grand children, courtesy of my 20 year old step daughter.

22 year old single male. I do live with my GF though.
No children
I work at a national chain tire shop.
The pay is good enough to meet the bills, but leaves little else for guns. I can always manage a few boxes of ammo though. 22lr is my friend!

Hopefully starting into a more profitable field this coming fire season. I'll be a wildland firefighter. The work is seasonal, but that can make you some darn good money should you get called out onto some large fires. Finding work in the winter can be kinda tough though. Wish me luck.

I'm 52 years old of Irish-French-Welsh ancestry, 6'5", 250 lbs, married 31 years, with one fabulous son soon to be 19. I've been a police/fire/911 dispatcher since early fall of 1978. (Yeah, too long maybe, but the work we do has its rewards.) And, as to the reason I'm here on the High Road , I've loved guns and shooting unashamedly since I was a child. Other interests/pursuits: I'm multilingual (French, Spanish, Italian, German, some Arabic, some Yiddish, a little English :D ) and I'm an all-around geek (a borderline autistic into math-based physical and computer sciences.) Also, I sign my posts with my simply my name. (I go by my middle name.)

Single, no kids (and no desire to have any)
TV editor/graphic designer by day, not sure what I am by night :)
No debt, so my gun-buying is for now 'guilt-free'.

Only just recently got into guns (couple months ago) and wish I'd have done so years ago. Not a big collection yet, 3 handguns, but have vowed not to buy any more until I get a safe first. Suffice to say I'm chomping at the bit to go safe shopping, but this pesky "work" thing has been thwarting my plans for a couple weeks! :cuss:

Pretty new to THR - so hello everyone!

Hmm... Dunno how I missed this thread when it started.

I'm 59, married almost 27 years to my first and only wife. Have a 26 yr old daughter--sometimes. We make what might be a good income if we weren't spending it in San Ramon, CA.

I am very anti "trendy", wear hush puppies to ride the 1985 bicycle I bought NIB 3 years ago. Would like to use cellphones as targets.

Long list of interests (see bio). Began "serious" shooting at age 52 with purchase of my first handgun. Did competiton for a few years, slowed down to a crawl with purchase of first house (San Ramon prices, remember?).

I work for Xerox as a production laser printer analyst (technical sales type). Being in Xerox I got over the techie thing years ago, am now very resistant to geekdom and bright shiny tech thingees. *Yawn* I supported the first Ethernets and the windows workstations that led to the Mac and Windows whatever down to the signal and micro code level. (Was the organization that produced Adobe, 3Com, Bay Networks/Synoptics among others.)

Would really like to retire to a job I could enjoy.

Well...as I write this, I have just turned 37, this morning in fact.

I am a retired federal officer, I was injured in the line of duty, and now collect a decent federal pension, as well work as a staffing consultant, doing in-depth background investigations for sensitive areas. I also make holsters for sport, concealment, and western style shooting.

My wife is the Director Of Human Resources for a large company based here in Phoenix, with offices in Los Angeles, Tucson, Las Vegas, Detroit, and Miami.

I have a nine month old daughter...first and last, who I take care of during the day, as I work from home.

So...my pension goes to the household, and my second income goes to hobbies and entertainment. That is how I finance my gun habit. :)

I'm 32 and I have a low paying job. But, I also have relatively few bills to pay, so that combined with a C&R license and an interest in milsurp rifles has allowed me to build up a modest collection of guns. Oh, and I'm single with only a couple cats as dependants :) . And many of the shooters I know predict that I'll be handloading my own ammo in the near future. . .

working in IT from the late university years, spare for one year military service.
happily married for last 6 years, and have one son 4 years old.

other than my salary, i make some income as a staff writer/editor for local GUN magazine; also, have some profit from my website (http://world.guns.ru); and write the books, all about guns =)

as of guns, now have only one, Stoeger 2000 deluxe shottie in 12 gauge. Could had have more but my wife is strongly opposed to have firearms in the same appartments with our omniexistent selfpropelling hurricane, called Dmitry, and generally known as our son, so i have just one tube to clear after each range session.

Moneys tight (since I pay more in student loans than I do in rent), but I like to shoot USPSA, most of the clays games and I'm the local club's MD for IDPA. I also do a lot of hunting depending on the time of year. I've went through spurts, but I perhaps buy one gun a year as of late. How'd I miss this one?

I'm 41, married to my wife 15 years, have two sons, 11 and 6, both of whom love to shoot! :) (The wife has in the past, but is not big into it.)

I've held numerous jobs, currently I work in a plastics plant third shift so I can be with the kids when they are off school, and also as a gunsmith part-time. (I was an Armorer in the US Army, plus self-taught from age 14.) I surely don't have tons of $$ to buy guns with, but since developing Mosinitis I seem to have acquired several Mosin Nagants, and a few other milsurps, too. ;)

51, freshly retired from 23 years in Uncle Sam's big green establishment (civvie side), not _even_ thinking about another job right now...

Married for 3 years, my first, her last, honeymoon's still goin' on, she teaches at the local university, PhD and NRA life member, what a lady she is, how lucky I am!

Happily living on 5 very rural acres in eastern NC, hurricane country...

No kids, two dogs (a Brittany for the birds, a Brazilian mastiff for everything else- when she grows up anyway, right now she's only a threat to the carpet and my socks), no cats, livestock come spring now that the fences are up...

Nissan PU (me), VW wagon (her), no toys w/wheels, want a tractor tho...

Meet my own definition of 'enough guns' (don't know how many, if you can keep track, you don't have enough). Hers, mine, ours= enough. Her wedding presents from me included a preban AR carbine, a Win Mod 70 Youth in .243 w/B&L glass, a 3d generation Glock 19 w/M3 light, and a Rem 870 12 ga. tuned and properly accessorized. She's a better shot than I am, doesn't hurt my feelings a bit. But I'm meaner than she is... 8^)

Married 28 years, with two grown daughters (25 & 26) and 6 cats (which is about 4 too many). It's amazing how many guns I could purchase once college tuition was no longer an issue. Probably have to slow down since retirement will mean an income reduction.

(I could have sworn I had done this before – maybe at The Firing Line?)

• I’m 59 years young
• Married 40 years – yes, to the same Indiana farm girl!
• We have made a point of going out on a date once a week – yes, with each other! – to dinner and a show for the past 30 years, and everyday we either workout with weights or walk (used to run and play tennis competitively, but my knees gave out)
• Purdue alumnus
• Two sons – each was in the Marine Corps for 8 years – now officers in the Air Force (intelligence) and the Army (UH60 pilot) – both close to retirement, but will likely stay in
• Four grandchildren
• Have worked for 10 companies, 16 divisions in 8 cities and 5 states – up to corporate VP
• Presently Independent Contractor, electromechanical engineering design and ISO Management Representative
• Started gun collection shortly after getting married
• Used to shoot NRA pistol course, skeet, HP rifle, and reloaded everything
• Now shoot HP rifle, just started in IDPA, and reload for both rifle and pistol
• Other hobbies include giant-scale radio control airplanes, model railroading, computers, carpentry, home machine shop

Oh, when I was 15 years old, I was a political prisoner in Havana, Cuba for working with the underground against Castro. This was during the Bay of Pigs. A few months later, I was in an orphanage in the U.S. I became a U.S. citizen after I got married.

Missed this previously, but glad I caught it this time. the longer I'm here, the more I see that my initial assumptions were way off. When I was "referred", I assumed it would be a lot of conservative, middle class, males talking guns. Wrong, huh?

As for me, I'm 36, married for 7 years, two great sons (4 1/2 and 2 1/2), and no pets (the fish all died). Episcopal christian, married to a liberal Irish Catholic (meaning she's pro-choice, pro-gay rights, etc.)

My day job is as an assistant prosecuting attorney (a DA). (Only the Boss is a full prosecuting attorney, and he got elected to that title.) Which means I'm an overworked, underpaid government lawyer, trying my best to live up to the image Law and Order gives jurors as to what a DA is supposed to be. Wife's a lawyer working for an insurance company.

Unfortunately, that means double the law school debt, so we are essentially paying the equivilent of three mortgages. Between that and day care, we eat a lot of mac and cheese. Shooting suffers as a result. I need to get my .22 repaired, so I can shoot more. Until I do, I soot a lot of 9mm and .38, because it's cheaper, and I can often scam ammo from local LEO's in trade for free training sessions. I often buy used guns, if the price is right and the condition is excellent, to save money.

I dream of the day when I can actually finish my novels, become a rich novelist like Tom Clancy, and buy what I want. Guns, that is, not a baseball team. :)

I'm 33, married for two years to my best friend, currently seven weeks away from our first child, a boy. Second marriage for me, first for her. Had a diastrous and thankfully childless first marriage to a rabid Massachusetts liberal anti. (Don't ask.)

Religion: none. I prefer the term "atheist", since "agnostic" merely means the same thing and has become the "socially acceptable" euphemism for non-belief.

Political leanings: hard-line Libertarian who thinks that all the articles of the Bill of Rights are sacrosanct, not just the ones you like.

I used to be a help desk jockey and messaging admin, but the dot-com bubble popping put an end to that. Now I'm going to school full-time, aiming for a B.A. in Education (K-6). I'll be wrapping that one up in a part-time evening program, because I'll be a full-time stay-at-home dad starting in February.

Born and raised in Germany, naturalized U.S. citizen since March 2004.

Used to have a whole lot of guns when I was single/divorced with a sizeable paycheck, but now the collection has shrunk down to manageable size. It's still my declared goal to have enough guns to fill a sizeable room in our new house, once we build it.

college graduate (U of A)
married for 13 years (first marriage)
employee trainer for past 15 years - short stint (2yrs.) as high school teacher - 15 years as mfg. rep. in the electronics/aerospace industries.
grew up in Phoenix, born in York, Pa.
got interested in guns at age 34
other interests - travel when we have the time and money and wannabee blues guitarist.

Original gun quests were to have a fine handgun example of major calibers and action styles. I pretty much accomplished this and have a very modest collection but as of late I have realized that all of my handgunning needs can be met with either the 9mm in semi autos and the .357/.38 in revolvers. I still like my .380's, .40's, .45's and .44 mag but don't see the need for any more in those calibers. Just thought I'd throw that in but maybe it's more information than you need. ;)

I'm 52, but the heart of a 16 year old still beats in there somewhere...Thanks, ZOCOR!

Retried Marine E-9. Now an independent owner/operator of an 18 wheeler, but semi-retired in that I only run a regular trip 2 days per week. Truck & refer trailer are paid for. I've also done just about every kind of part-time/temporary job imaginable from farm/ranch work, paperboy, bouncer, fast food, pizza delivery, cab driver, nuclear power plant security; the list goes on and on...all for the greater good. Nowadays I really enjoy my time in the hot tub or on the reloading bench.

Happily married 25 years, 3 kids (2 from 1st marriage) all grown and on their own. 2 dogs & 5 cats. We live next door to my wife's 80 year old Mom, taking care of stuff that she needs help with (like shoveling snow today!). Zen existentialist conservative. Don't smoke, like a drink every once in awhile, got a nice assortment of wines down in the basement. No drugs, but don't care if anybody else does as long as they color inside the lines.

Debt free except for 2 0% car payments that we could pay-off, but why???

We own 14 long guns, 14 handguns, + 2 blackpowder. There are several more on my "must have before I die list". I reload. I shoot IPSC and plan on branching out into 3 gun and CAS this year. Also trap/skeet. My beloved also shoots...some of the firearms are HERS, dangit!

I am 38

I am a computer tech/analyst for a large bank (no I will not fix your computer :D )

I have been happily married for over 2 yrs.

This hobby started the day after I turned 18 and bought my first firearm. A Marlin .22 bolt action rifle. The start of a long slippery slope.

My wife and I were both born and raised in PA. We moved out here to AZ in July of '03. This is my second move to AZ. I first lived here from '93 to '96 (did not go so well the 1st time. Doing much better the 2nd time around).

I by no means have unlimited funds for this hobby. New house, cars, motorcycle, two greyhounds really suck up the money. I am lucky that my wife is very understanding about my hobby and she is also enjoys shooting too. But the bills have to get paid first (darn bills!!). Not too mention our play money gets spit between computer gear, motorcycle, and my wife’s various hobbies as well.

When I was in my 20's I had more money than brains. I had a pretty respectable collection back then. But that all vanished after hitting a financial brick wall during my first move to AZ.

So these days I try to focus on quality over quantity. I may not be able to buy every gun I want, but I do enjoy the ones I have. Can't really complain.

61 retured Army officer of 24 years active service, now a health care administrator since leaving the service 14 years ago. I own five guns, and could buy more if I wanted, but not sure why I would do so. I keep looking for the perfect carry/self defense gun and have two S&W 357's and two 45 ACP semi auto's, plus a 22 for cheap target shooting. If I ever find the "perfect" gun, and my new Kimber Ultra Carry might just be that, I might get rid of least some of the others.

46 last October. Married 15 years in February. Former Marine. Spent some time traveling on a bike, worked on oil rigs in the gulf and power plants in the north. Currently in aerospace after a stint in telecommunications.

Enough money to get what I really want, but not enough for what I'd like.... horses cost a bit. Own a good selection of pistols and revolvers, enough for pin shooting, IDPA and bullseye. A decent skeet gun, a 30-30, a Nagant, .22 rifle and a Remington HD shotgun.

I am 24, single, no kids, and starting a new job next week. I would post a pic but I am way too goofy looking for that. :D
I afford guns (and most anything else I want/need) by spending less money than I make. I have been peicing the same old Jeep Pickup back together for years now. My vehicle is a beater but at least I don't have a car payment. My means aren't unlimited but I seem to manage OK.

Hopefully I'll be able to afford some more guns before too long. My next one (which is on hold for me right now) is a Kel-Tec P-32.

My real "plan" for my increase in income though is a peice of wooded land with a cabin on it. After that, I'm going to look into going back to college and probably see about being a history teacher.
I think that a pro-gun history teacher could do a little bit of good.

still single, and waiting for one of you to hook me up with a suitable female, aged 21 - 30, income at least $60k a year, should be willing to be my 'sugar-mommy' and buy me ammo and guns, oh yeah, and she should be at least 'average looking'. i'll settle for a "4" on the scale of 1-10.

dont leave me hanging like you did last time guys.

Almost 35, married w/ 2 girls, Active Duty Air Force that has deployed an average of 120 days a year for the past 15 years. 5 years to go, then I haven't a clue.
Shoot, reload and hunt when I'm not on the HD 96 wide glide while I'm home.
I'm in air transportation, (think of Fed ex for the military) about to head back to the desert for the 7th time since the gulf war :banghead: yes it does get old, but every trip has bought a new rifle with the tax free allowances. This trip will get me a scout rifle custom built to Col Coopers specs on a Rem model 7 youth rifle in 7-08.

BTW, THANKS,... thats YOUR tax dollars at work! :neener:

Didn't look through to see if I needed an update, just assumed it was needed.

22, 135lbs, 5'5'', married(Sunday will be 6 months :D :D :D ), still taking classes a couple at a time to eventually get a degree and maybe become a teacher, working as a CST (Customer Service Technician. I work a lot harder than the title makes it sound. I fix equipment, make sure it works, clean it, load it on a big truck and deliver it to a hospital. Then when they are done with it I gotta go back out in a big truck and pick it up to bring it back and start the whole process again.
I average 45-60 hours a week doing a man's job. It's really bad on the back.

When not in my work uniform I look pretty normal and average. Still haven't figured out which famous person I look like, but have had many people tell me I look like one.

My husband, Jon, is a graphic designer for a company that publishes children's books. He's 22 also, but he's 12 days younger. :neener:

I drive a green 93 Chevy Blazer and Jon drives a red 89 Ford Taurus.

Together we now have:

Ruger SP101 in .357 2" barrel
Ruger Mark II Slabslide (my wedding gift to Jon)
Glock 19 ( I stole it from dad who stole it from mom)
A Spanish Libar I think(it's a .25 and a bunch of fun, but not really sure what it is)
Most recently a Kel-Tec P11(my carry gun)

Now I need to work on getting either another Kel-Tec or one that looks like it that Jon would like. It was his idea to have matching guns. Well I found mine now it's his turn. Also eventually looking for a rifle.

30 yrs male, Fulltime computer geek for a University (one of 5 republicans in a department of 70 faculty and staff), Single no g/f, not sure if thats good or bad, one chocolate lab named Kate. Own 2 cars and a pickup, newest is a 92. Oh yeah my honey, 1953 14' Lone start runabout with a 1975 6 hp evinrude.

I am trying to buy 1-3 firemarms a year from a 5 year absense in buying, still working on what I consider a utilitarian collection, other words firearm must have a use other than to punch paper at the range. Few more firearms and I can start to buy the "toy" variety. I mainly use my tax return to purchase firearms and some money I save each month. I currently have have 2 autos and a wheelgun, 2 rifles, .22lr and 30-06, 5 shotguns 4 12 guage and one 20 and a .50 hawken. Also part of an inhertance from my grandparents gun collection a few safe queen pistols from the 19th century.

I am also a part time nursing student so tuition has been eating away at the firearm fund. My job pays well for a bachelor, I surely wouldn't want to try and raise a family on it though.

74 this year. retired USN. since my SS has kicked in, i can afford a gun a month. have a spectacular friend/wife/woman with only one fault, she wants every gun i buy. had her (#4) 25 yrs next month. kids are all 50 or so and the only dependent we have is a snauzer. live 3 miles out of a small town and plan moving 10 miles out next month. getting crowded out here. damn yankees found this county and came back to stay. mountains, forests, clear streams, mild winters, cant blame them. most of them are good folks. one affable fellow i stopped by to see, going fishing, was having his yard trees cut down and the stumos dug up. i queried that. he said he had never had a decent size yard and grass to mow. here i am, planting trees to kill the grass back. somebody said it takes all kinds. he spends his summer mowing, i spend my summer shooting and fishing. oh, my job of work, not a damned thing. when i retired, i retired. i was the senior smallarms marksmanship instructor in the USN when i retired and still teach shooting because i enjoy it so much, especially women that want to tote guns. all for free of course.
pitiful as it is, thats my story. my moniker says it all. i am a happy old sailor.

Late to the party (no surprise there  ), but I’ll play … lets see now …

How old is everyone?
What kind of job do you have?
Married/single/family?

28
Independently wealthy gentleman of leisure
Body of Adonis
Intellect rivaling Socrates and Einstein
Involved in an open, but ever so meaningful relationship with Shania’s twin …

Crap! :banghead: Waking up sucks!
Think I was trapped in one of Spiff’s dreams.

Ah well, back to reality …

44 year young Peter Pan wanna-be who refuses to fully grow up
Investment Advisor (no we’re not all rich yuppies)
Married, and still call her Sweetie after 20+ years
No kids unless you count a neurotic Beagle, and a cat I’ll gladly donate to your local Szechwan restaurant.
Repatriated American - refugee from our northern neighbor being gratefully assimilated in the south (y’all)
Good health, and relatively good shape (compared to what I’m not sure)
Enough guns (for the moment anyway)

Like most of you here – life is good. :)
