If S&W and Numrich don't have one, who will?

Gun Parts has them listed as in stock. Note that the 65, 65-1, and 65-2 used the same hammer, and the same hammer was also used in the Model 64 and 66 revolvers as well as other S&W models.

Brownell's will probably have them.

Bear in mind when buying one that the way these were installed was matching a hammer to a trigger for best fit - meaning the assembly person would try different combinations until they found a nice mating pair. This way the parts could be fully manufactured before assembly - if you later filed on them, they needed to be re-finished to ensure the hardness on the mating surfaces.

So, if you can find a pair that came out of a gun together, for example in a Gunbroker auction for both pieces, that will be your best bet. There are some parts S&W won't sell to non-gunsmiths because of fit and safety issues, and the hammer/trigger *might* be among them. If you do find a mated pair, you can also use ones from blue or nickel plated guns, you'll just have case hardened parts instead of flash chromed.

Another place to try for hard-to-find parts is Hoosier Gun Works in Kentucky (do not get me started on that!).

Any gun shows coming up in your area? Most decent shows always have a parts guy or two in attendance.

You could take the gun in with the sideplate removed and only the trigger & rebound spring/slide installed; that way you could try out hammers until you find one that works.

Sounds like someone picked up one of those DA-only deals from J&G... ;)
