Ok, what is the plural form of cannon?
Does anyone argue that guns are fired whereas targets are shot?
Anyone else that has any questions or answers, post!

Cannons. Look at Tennyson's epic poem about the Lt. Brigade: "Cannons to the left of them. Cannons to the right of them."

Interesting questions.
Like Gary said, the modern plural is 'cannons'. Webster's Unabridged lists it that way, but it also says that the collective form is cannon'. I checked my "Oxford Universal Dictionary of the English Language" (supposed to be the end all of dictionaries). They say both the plural and the collective are 'cannon'. They also give some history of the word which is interesting. It originally meant "large tube". "My God, Napoleon is leveling his large tubes at us!"
As for shot vs fired. I know I often shoot my firearms, so I guess after I shoot one it has been shot. No?
