i recently recieved a sig sauer p226 from my father and i am trying to find out just how old it is without having to pay, any help is greatly appreiciated

You're going to have to post at least a partial serial number. Tens of thousands have been made, and without even the most basic info from you, we're not going to be able to help.

As it is now, what you're asking is sort of like walking into a car dealership and saying "I have this old car, can you tell me what it is?" without describing it at all.

if you got the case with it, look to see if it has a fired case in a little brown paper bag. on the bag will be the date it was fired at the factory.
