Left work early to go shooting today.......50mph winds and temps. in the 30's......am I nuts????I did shoot for like an hour and a half.....I was close so the wind didn't matter as far as accuracy.......still I'm glad I went...got to shoot some of the Corbon 9mm+p 90gr from my G17..man I love that gun.peppy little round....w/ 450flbs of energy ..nothing to sneeze at....also got some SP101 work in.......love that one too!!!!38+P+Federals
I've decided that when ever I shoot I'll put at least 50 rds thru the SP(my CCW)
Anyway I had a good time(my Father showed up too)...even tho I still can't feel my ears!!!

I was thinking about heading out to the range for a couple of hours in the morning, but we're starting to drop into the low to mid 60's during the day. Guess I'll have to take a sweatshirt just in case, huh?

I hear ya! Thought about putting up my hood tonight after the sun went down :scrutiny: Dropped to almost 60 while I was out
Several years ago, a friend & I went out shooting. It was sooo cold (it was snowing at the time), we were shooting from inside the truck just to stay out of the elements. I think back & realize how big a wuss my buddy was :D

One of the keys to survival. Being able to shoot under less than ideal conditions.:neener:

Yup, getting to be that time of year. Hard to bike either. I've gone shooting where I had to wade through a quarter mile of snow to get to the range. The snow was crusty enough that I didn't have any trouble scavanging brass. A bit crazy, yes.

Let me get this straight. You got to leave work early, AND go shooting. Who cares how cold it was, a good thing is a good thing.:D

A buddy and I went shooting on Veteran's Day. After about two hours, the wind kicked up and it started to rain a little. I had to put on a jacket. The temperature was a cool 65 degrees. Autumn in southern AZ!
This weekend I'll have to turn the cooler off,

Hah, I'm prepared. I just bought a can of gun oil. It says on the can that it's supposed to work in temperatures down to -54C. That's -65 and change for you 'murricans. If it gets colder than that, I guess I will just have to wipe the oil off and shoot the guns dry. :D

Geezuz, I'm not far from NY, and it's raining but 14 C. That's 50 something F for you foreigners.

HAH! Ok so we have messed up gun laws in Cali; but at least it's always perfect range weather.
Except when it's raining.
Or foggy.
Or on fire.
Or shaking to pieces.
*sigh*
never mind what I said.

I think the coldest it ever got when I shot was in the mid-60s. Usually averages between 80s and mid 90s but sometimes in the lower 100s.
The weather can't make up its mind down here even during the winter.

TonyB, why 90gr for defensive ammo. I'm just wondering because it penetrates so poorly or is that what you are looking for in home defense?
QuarterBoreGunner, that "shaking to pieces" thing just blows the accuracy to hell.

Th eworst thing about shooting in cold weather is running out of loaded Magazines. I hated reloading a 30 rnd 10-22 mag when it is freezing. So the moral is buy lots of MAgs and you are good to go.

I hate winter. The only rifle range near me is a private club... $300 initiation... so I usually just go with my father as a guest to play with my rifle. Unfortunatly he isnt as commited as I am(read:he hates freezing his balls off), so when the temp goes dooowwwn (20F/30mph winds) I get virtually no range time. (besides handgun of course)
Oh woe is I! :o
Gotta love shooting in cold weather though. Keeps the barrel(s) from slagging under rapid fire!
