Looking for a good taxidermist to work a few deer hides into nice soft buckskins. Any recommendations in the local MD area?

Wouldn't you need a tannery for that?

I've only ever seen one taxidermist in Baltimore, Kelly's Taxidermy on Pulaski Highway. Have no idea if the place is any good though...

im a 'dermist, and i recommend you just look into a tannery. 99% of taxidermist send the skins off to a tannery.

Thanks for the tips. Not too many tanneries in this area, plus the mess of preparing the hides rules out a diy job.

HA! :D Pattons is pretty well known with a very good rep, but I'd differ that it's "close" to DC/Baltimore when it's located in my Favorite part of VA..., Woodstock!
As fellow resident of the People's Republic of Maryland, I will tell you, you'll probably have to go to Hagerstown as you are in the DC/Balt corridore. Soft buckskins..., the real thing are brain tanned, and that is very much a diy situation. Jerusalem Mill just north of Baltimore can show you how, but it's lots of work..., so ...,
You might call these guys for chemical tanning. I don't know if they do it at all, but it's worth a try...,

Check the lower right hand banner for taxidermy services. Capt Bob could also recommend any others that he knows - he's an awesome guide.

I found a taxidermist just a few minutes away from home. I decided to get my big doe hide tanned with the hair on. This was taken with a long shot with the slug gun, some 100 yds. And yes, Loyalist Dave, I have used Kline's Taxidermy up in Smithsburg. He did a great job on a buckskin a few years ago. I just have some trouble getting all the way out there this year.

+1 for Klines taxidermy. I actually work with him on a part time security gig and he does amazing work. The Dicks sporting goods in Hagerstown is decorated with his mounts. Again if anyone is looking to get some work done he is well worth the drive.
