Ithaca mod 37 action problem

I have an old Ithaca model 37, that I replaced a broken forend tube assembly on. (#44 in schematic) the action is as slick as anything I've ever felt, until I put the barrel back on. Then the action gets stiff and tight. What am I missing?

If you take the fore-end grip off the fore-end tube, does it still cycle stiff?

AndyJ,
I can't thank you enough. I did as you suggested and took the forend grip off and it worked just fine. That's when I noticed that the cap that holds the wood on the forend has a notch for the barrel milled in it, that has to be aligned correctly.
Simple (in hindsight) :o

Yep, not something you would even think about making a difference unless you had been there and done that. :) Enjoy your Model 37!

Where did you get you parts. The pump rod on my 37 came detached from the forend tube and I am trying to find replacement parts.

I bought a new one from Ithaca. It was $41.00 including shipping.
I couldn't find a used one anywhere.
