Bullet seating speed

Despite time constraints, decided to load some 300 grn XTP's in .44 to try this afternoon .. that's if my boy gets here and we have any daylight left!!

I was reminded tho - and mention this mostly for the newer reloaders ...... do not action the press ram too fast when seating the bullet .. I use a Lee turret BTW. I have noticed in the past and worse with lead bullets .... if the ram is operated very fast ... there is enough inertia in the operation to seat the bullet just a tad deeper ... so not good for consistency as OAL altered.

Another small point ... primer pockets (even handgun ammo) .... still worth IMO at least eyeballing, if not actually cleaning ... a small piece of crud can leave the primer a bit proud.

Nothing very new in mentioning this but seemed worth passing on the reminder.:)

Good reminder. I did some 9mm today and noticed the same thing. If I was consistent in the way I operated the ram, the OAL stayed right on. When I rammed fast, I went about .001-.003 deeper. Enough to worry about.
