Ok guys I am getting real serious about adding another Bolt action rifle to my collection and I narrowed it down to these three makes. This rifle would be a 30.06 in stainless steel used mainly for deer hunting. I am looking for a rifle around the 6.5 lb. range and I think those three manufactures offer a rifle at that weight. I have owned Remingtons and Winchesters but would like something different. Out of those three makes which one would you guys choose?

Nothing wrong with any of those choices.
If it was my cash I'd definately go Sako.

Sako also---had several Weatherby's that didn't live up to expectations or the high price tag.

Had two Sakos. Wasn't impressed. Ditto Weatherby. Never had a Sig rifle, but love their handguns. If limited to those three choices, I think I'd take a chance on the Sig.

Since you're willing to pay top dollar, and obviously concerned with aesthetics, have you looked at the Dakota? Pre-64 Model 70 action- the best that is or ever was. Just MNSHO of course.

I hunt with a 25+ year old Sako handed down from my dad. Excellent gun!

Weatherby used to make a Great rifle in Southgate using FN mauser actions, I've got 2, sold the german ones and lesser trash copies, MKV's are bunk design IMHO.

Sakos now have an inegral lock which I hate.

I didnt know Sig made a stainless gun, but I love the 202..

Buy an older Sako if you can or get a win 70 stainless...

Sako or Tikka. You can't beat them.

I'd suggest the one which fits you the best, and sorta "looks good" to you.

Most any rifle can easily be made to shoot accurately; certainly quite good for hunting. For example, my Mark V '06 improved dramatically with no more than some tweaking with the forearm. Anytime I get a three-shot group over 3/4" I blame me, not the rifle.

Wildalaska you are correct. As far as I know Sig does not make a stainless rifle and I should have realized that and not included that in my first post. I think they have some type of finish on the rifle that is real good about fighting the elements and weather. That 202 is a nice looking rifle. If their rifles are as good as their pistols I think I might could live with one. Guys I thank you for the info and I would appreciate all the input i can get.

I looked at these rifles a couple years ago and decided on the Sauer 202. It has a lot of features I really like, including interchangeable barrels, a detachable magazine, quick-release sling swivels, a really slick silent safety, and a bolt that operates like a knife cutting through warm butter. Plus, it shoots sub-1" groups at 100 yards with round-nose bullets (though I'm sure Weatherby's and Sako's are capable of that). Unfortunately they've gone up in price since I got mine, but I'd still buy one again, even at the higher prices. Actually, I'm going to have to buy another one one day, since mine is up for sale (wife's expecting our first child this spring).

Isn't there a 'safety recall' on this Sauer?

Gordon, AFIK it's the Blaser, not the 202, that's being recalled. According to SIG's website, the inadvertantly used non-stainless pins in some of the trigger assemblies.
