Had my MK9 loaded with the +P Gold Dots and heard some "not so good" stuff regarding this ammunition. (Some scary things, actually.) So, I unloaded the +P G-D's and replaced them with Hydra-Shoks. Has anyone else heard anything negative about +P Gold Dots?

Thanks,
KR

There was a recall for those rounds around April of 2002. Speer initiated the recall due to some primers not having priming compound in them. The estimate was 1 in 100,000. I would double check your supply to see if they are in here as far as lot number, then if need be, contact Speer for replacement.

But as far as negative things...no. I use them exclusively in my Kahr, and while is recoil is a more than normal, I've had no issues with them at all.

The lot numbers I have are all "L07H72" so I should be OK. However, I think it was Tamara who had news of a worse nature than bad primers. Tamara, was it you that had the info?

Is this the Ammoman stuff? I bought 500 rounds and to be on the safe side use it only at the range.

I've been using Speer for about a year now. I've never had any problems with it. They go bang when I pull the trigger and usually hit its intended target.

I've gone through a couple thousand rounds of the reclassified 124=p's w/o any problems. I have 500 rounds of it left, and I intend to order a couple more cases of it before it's all gone.

That better not be the stuff from Ammoman.com
:uhoh:

I don't see a lot number since this stuff came in an ammo can. There is a sticker that says it came from the Department of Defence.

The reclassified stuff has a lot number and comes in boxes of 250 rounds. I've gone through a box of the stuff without any problems.

I used to carry Speer for quite a while. I liked what I heard about the performance of the Gold Dot bullet.

So, after the recall and all the hubbub about Speer ammunition I went to Black Hills Ammunition.

Heard alot of good things about Black Hills. I have shot alot of this ammo without failure out of my G19.

The Black Hills 124 Gr +P sports the Gold Dot bullet and is pushing around 430 lbs of energy. I dont have a crono so thats the market energy rating.

MidwayUSA has boxes of 50 for $19.95

.32ACP Gold Dots were what I used in my Seecamp before I went to RBCD ammunition. And can someone explain just what the problem was?

I emailed ammoman and asked them what the deal was. I picked this stuff up at a gun show and they never said anything to me about it being recalled SD or LE ammo.

Here's the deal on the ammoman ammo. Speer put out certain lots of ammo when they were doing a changover in their primer inspection process. They afterwards discovered they couldn't actually determine that there was primer compound in the primers. For that reason, Speer recalled the ammo and tested it. They found very, very few problems, but repackaged it with the disclaimer on the box that it was for practice only.

Ammoman said in over 9 million rounds of the stuff sold (various calibers), they have not heard of a single problem.

I have been through about 750 rnds of the non +P and +P bulk boxes of the GD's with no issues. I do have some retail boxed GD's also.

standard pressure alot and have yet to have a missfire.

I think this is one of those chicken little "the sky is falling" trips. I have yet to hear of anyone that has had a problem.

The internet is playing tricks on your mind and causing you to buy more ammo you don't need. Wonderful ain't it!
