Is anybody else as excited as I am for the FNP 45 Tactical?

I've been jonesing for an FNP 45 for about a year now but I'm going to hold out for this with a red dot, wouldn't that be fun?

Anybody know what the MSRP will be?

I'll get one if I have to sell the truck to pay for it ! I love my plain-ol'-one, but that one I have to have.....

January 24, 2010, 11:19 PM
Anybody know what kind of red dot that is?

count me in.
i have a 2 tone FNP 45, this will go nicely with it. hopefully this means more sight options too.

I'm not too keen on "tactical" pistols but I really like the FNP 45 Tactical and would consider adding one to the collection.

It sure looks mean:evil:

I read somewhere the MSRP is around $1200. A little steep for my budget unfortunately.

Color in that pic. looks really off when compared to every other photo I have seen of the original "military".Also the Doctor sight is not FDE as it was with the prototype.

1200.00:eek:...600.00=Basic Pistol,+100.00 for the night sights,+100.00 for threaded barrel(bit steap),+100.00 for the machined sight mount and +300.00 for the Doctor red dot...

Hmmmmm...Still a bit over priced but if the color is the FDE of the prototype and the Doctor sight FDE,I'll still be in for two!!:D

Add them to the two FDE USGs I've got already.:)

February 6, 2010, 02:20 AM
For that price, they should fit the iron sights to the slide better.

February 6, 2010, 10:32 AM
That's Awesome. Deos it come in Black? Deos it come wih a regular barrel option?

February 6, 2010, 09:18 PM
it only comes in the tan. The sits are raised to cowitness with the red dot.
only comes with the threaded barrel and does not come with site shown.

So does that mean NO doctor sight?! Still 1200.00?!

February 6, 2010, 09:47 PM
$1200 would be a bit much with the sight. Without is seems really out of line to me.

Comes with two mounting bases for use with optional red dot sights...Custom fitted cordura case...

Lets say...125.00=per base.50.00=cordura case.Instead of the Doctor sight.

Sweet handgun:),to be sure,if it shoots like the other FNP-45s:D but :eek:come on man,the price is about 300.00 high.

Sometimes I hate being a gun fiend!

FN,because we've got you and you anoid us...:neener:

They've got us and know it because so many of us have been giving rave reviews of the FNP-45...
We anoid them because so many of us hounded them to bring the "Military" now "Tactical" into production...

Now we're going to pay for it!

February 7, 2010, 10:49 AM
I like the looks of it, and I like FN, but come on... $1,200 for a plastic trigger?

I wanted a FNP-45 badly. Then I picked one up. Makes a Glock feel like a KelTec. They did have their stuff together with that mount though. Makes me want to drill/tap the slide on my Glocks.

The MSRP on the -45 USG is $795, but they don't cost that much. At least mine was closer to $600 early last year.

Too big? You must not have XL hands like me, my -45 USG fits me perfectly. Now the P-32 and the Rohrbaugh feel really tiny and the 1911s feel svelter. Is that a word?

I got tired of waiting on the -45 Tactical and bought a Sig X-5 TAC. Yeah, it's only a 9mm, but it's SAO and came with night sights and a threaded barrel. :)

I saw one of these, minus docter sight, at a local gun store the other day and it really is a cool looking pistol. But yeah since it costs as much as my stg 556 I cant seem to justify it, tho I still really want it.

Sorry to resurrect, but does anyone have more hands-on experience with this one? I'd like some other opinions (especially from anyone who has shot their extensively) but here is my take.

I shot my buddy's this past weekend and it was flat out awesome. I used to think it was kind of hokie, but recoil was easily controlled, ergonomics are excellent and fit and finish were very good. Accuracy was well above average, and the sights, which I thought might be strange to use since they are so tall, are really excellent. Green front/orange rear tritium... it was done right. I looked at getting one of my Glocks milled out for a red dot, but this gun meets or beats a Glock re-hash on price and has quite a few features the Glock doesn't. I only got to put twenty rounds out, but it is at the top of my "shall purchase" list.

For less than $1K you can get a new HK USP Tactical .45. No it doesn't have a holo site, but c'mon.

August 24, 2010, 09:11 PM
I'm waiting for the Tactical in black, for that price I won't take a color I don't really like. Looking to put a Trijicon RMR reflex sight on it -- red dot goodness but no batteries required, gotta love everything but the price.

It looks like Impact Guns, which always has guns at a higher price than I can find them elsewhere, has the tactical for $945 which is more reasonable than $1200 for what you are getting.

That said for less than an HK USP or the FN one can have a glock with a threaded barrel and have the slide milled so you can run a red dot.

Mill slide: $200
Co-Witness sights: $50
Threaded Barrel: $110

$360+ gun cost (call it $500)= $860. Add an extra mag ($20), the soft case ($60) and slide refinishing ($80-100) and you are looking at an equivalent package for $1020. You can get P45 Tactical for well under $1000 shipped from CDNN, and there is definitely something to be said for having a factory gun rather than a pieced-together aftermarket job. I love Glocks, but I did the math and the FN just comes out on top.

You could always put a new paint job on your 1911. Old an busted, or the new hotness??

A week or so ago, i mentioned that the new platforms for the 45 acp just blow the doors off the 1911. Alot of people blew a head gasket. Here we are again. Aint it cool.

August 25, 2010, 03:24 PM
its 1200 WITHOUT the sight? NO WAY!...

i love my FNP's but thats ridiculous. Id spend that 1200 on a HK and then add the sight.

August 25, 2010, 06:28 PM
I'd say the fact new pistols keep getting compared to or it's fans keep trying to make the 1911 pale In it's wake speaks immensely of the 1911's timeless effectiveness.

On a $1200 gun that rear sight could be cowitnessed without seeing all the daylight between it and the slide. Takes away from what is visually a nice gun.

August 26, 2010, 05:17 AM
This thing is so swanky, I might even give plastic a shot!!!

August 31, 2010, 05:01 PM
I actually prefer iron sights on a pistol, even on a "tacti-Cool" pistol.

So far, I do, too, but the red dot has an absolute advantage over the open sights in terms of precision. What's good for the goose is good for the gander, and the military doesn't put optics on its weapons for nothing.

Also, the gun is not $1200. It is in the low 900s through CDNN and a little over that on other online venues.

Waited and waited for this baby in black. 950 buck later its all mine. First trip to the range 250 rounds later all is right with the world.

Second trip less than 20 rounds disaster! The hammer gets caught in the slide and will not go forward or back. After taking it apart and cleaning it well, same thing first round. the slide stays back as if the mag were empty. But its not. Its just caught on the hammer.

an email and 3 phone calls to FNH went unanswered for two days! Then I had a voice-mail from customer service, which i missed. I returned the call and have not heard back for 3 more days.

gun when back to FNH at my expense $30.00 and I'm waiting.

Boy am I heart broken and frightened. A good weapon should fire 100% of the time. Especially a "tactical" one. Lives depend on these things. FNH better get this right.

September 19, 2010, 11:47 PM
got mine through CDNN....875 shipped!

I was extremely impressed with this gun. Its the same size as my beretta 92, feels about 1/3 lighter. Most importantly the grip is thinner then the beretta yet packs a whopping 15 rounds of .45 acp.

September 20, 2010, 07:57 PM
Interesting gun, if they made it in stainless, and it wasn't tan :barf:, and would cost what the plastic one costs, I might be interested!;)

September 21, 2010, 12:57 PM
I hear a stainless one might be coming later. You already have the choice of black or FDE.

I can't say much about the price. For under $900, like some people have gotten theirs, it's not a bad deal. Figure $650 or so for a nice 15-round .45 with three magazines, then another $75 for night sights, $100 for threaded barrel, $50 for the very nice zippered range bag/case, and $50 for the milled slide with two mounts for the red dots and you're not getting a bad deal at all. If you don't want/need all that, just get the standard FNP-45 in one of its variants.

September 21, 2010, 06:05 PM
My regular FNP-45 has been perfect.

September 30, 2010, 10:15 PM

Got my .45 tactical back from FNH yesterday, only took 10 days which is better than the 3 - 4 weeks I was told it would take by them.

I wish they had kept it long enough to fix it right! Was told the "firing pin retainer" needed replaced.

18 rounds after I got it back, SAME DARN THING! The hammer gets hung up in the slide and won't let the slide move.

Back to FNH. I am hoping to get them to pay for the return shipping this time at least.

A tactical weapon should not function like this, especially for the second time.

October 1, 2010, 01:08 AM
Sorry to hear about your problems with your .45. One comment you've made twice doesn't sit well with me. The fact that it is sold as a Tactical weapon should be faultless.

Agreed it should function well, but no mass produced weapon ever made can be expected to be faultless upon receipt. Manufacturers operate with production tolerances and the possibility might be that only a sample from a batch or "run" is actually test fired. I have idea if FNP tests that way at all.

Anyway, any person who expects to carry and use a weapon in tactical conditions test fires and trains with a weapon to ensure it is ready for tactical duty because they know failures happen. You test fired yours and it failed. Good for you finding the problems at the range and not on the street. I hope you get the problems resolved.

I got the FNP-45 Tactical yesterday and got out to shoot today....took any round I fed it, whereas my NightHawks are finicky. They have a winner.
Mine is all black. They have mount devices for Trigicon and Doctor sights but I understand the C-More will fit right up. My dealer is looking into that as I want to shoot Open in USPSA...I will shoot it tomorrow competitively. The trigger sould be a bit better but then look at the cheap price...I paid 1069 for mine. Happy as the proverbial pig in slop. Will let ya'll know after shooting tomorrow. I also want a comp unit to screw on as well. So sight and comp maybe another 500 total...that's great. I also have a Tactical CZ-75 in 40.
Like the FN as well so far. The CZ ran me 1350. So FN is competitive.

Did NOT like full 15 rounds in the magazines...locked up tighter than a drum...would NOT feed from any of the magazines...this with 230 gr Fed hall ammo. Never expected this. Knew about early magazine problems with the 14 round magazines...but this is their new hot improved tactical...?Maybe these are really pnly 13-or 14 round magazines...? Maybe the main spring is not strong enough to strip off rounds from a full magazine...? any thoughts.

January 8, 2011, 07:59 PM
Mine feeds fine from all magazines. What ammo were you using that locked it up? Maybe contact Bob Ailes at FN Customer Service and let him know about the issue.

January 9, 2011, 07:44 AM
Interesting gun, if they made it in stainless, and it wasn't tan :barf:, and would cost what the plastic one costs, I might be interested!;)
they are stainless and you can get black if you like now...

January 9, 2011, 06:18 PM
Some mags are like that - difficult chambering the first round off a full magazine. A lot of spring is needed to push those rounds up fast enough to feed when the gun is cycling. Just load the mags down a round or two down.

I love the hell out of my Black FNP 45 Tactical. Reduced recoil and with the arched msh it fit perferctly in my small arthritic hands. I have only 250 rounds throuhg it now but have used it in a competitive shoot already. Have a Lone Wolf Distributing comp on the front that fits perfectly. Midway has extra staniless magazines and I have 4 on order. Picked up black mags from Tombstone Tactical..Now as for holsters...can't find any,. Like this gun so much I have another just like it coming. Oh have a C-More coming also.
Plan on using one in Open Class and the other in Limited Class...USPSA shoots. My trigger is lightening up slightly after the 250 rounds of Fed 230 Ball. But it shoots JHPs and SWCs just fine. Did have feed ramp polished a bit...and only run 14 rounds in the 15 round magazines. Discoverd it likes to run wet as well...so spray her down good and you will have no reliability problems...assuming you clean and lube her well before first use.
Customer service from FN is outstanding...I had questions and they have been there for answers...talk with Bob in cusomer service...they don;t run from problems...hell they call you to follow up on their advice. Blessings....it is one fine weapon.

Forgot to mention Accuracy...I am happy with minute of pop can at 20 yards...but my dealer joined me and put 5 shots into just under an .75 inch at 20 yards. So my 65 year old eyes are far less capable than this weapon. Outstanding...hence my second order for another just like it. Still gotta find a holster to accomodate the gun and comp..? Well can always modify my "system" holster to fit this....but would like something off the shelf...oh...and want to change out the rear sight on the second gun to an adjustable and am having problems there also. My dealer charged me 1070 for my gun and think that's a bargain for what I got...compared to my Tactical CZ 75s at 1300 and no case or extras like threaded barrel and custom case.
