I've got a Blackhawk in 357 I rescued (from its appearance when I found it at a garage sale it was obviously someone's truck gun, probably kept in a toolbox). The issue I'm running into is the hammer doesn't push the cylinder latch down. If i open the gate, the latch goes down just fine, and if I rotate the cylinder so the latch isn't in a cylinder slot it cocks fine.

Any ideas? While not terribly difficult, my comfort level disassembling it that far is a bit shaky.

I'll bet someone forced the hammer to full-cock with the loading gate open, and bent the hammer plunger. You can download an owner's manual from Ruger's website, and you should be able to disassemble it from the exploded drawing there. They're really not very difficult to disassemble and reassemble.

If you doubt your abilities, either return the gun to Ruger, or find a good gunsmith.

Blackhawks are pretty easy to repair, but Ruger's customer service is so good (in my experience) they probably won't charge you if you send it in for repair.

Not only will Ruger repair inexpensively They will also do a factory refinish which will make that truck gun new very inexpensively. BTW the parts which you will probably need are probably not available to public as they require Gunsmith fitting, so Ruger is the best source for repairs anyway.
