My price range is $1300 and I want the biggest safe I can get that will function properly for years to come and keep a couple punks or methheads from breaking into it.
After much research I have narrowed it down to two.
Diamond back 5940 1300 delivered 1hour fire rating 10gauge body 3 gauge door not too fancy but servicable and I have not heard a bad thing about the safe I guess somebody had a problem with a distributor.
Steelwater 5939 1200 delivered 1 hour fire 10 gauge body 4 gauge door
looks good on the website but I have not found anyone that has bought one to comment on the quality or service
I know about AMSEC BF's Cant afford one big enough.
I know Sturdysafes are strong but my wife would never let one of those ugly things thru the front door.
Any opinions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sturdy safe. You could always slap $10 worth of paint on it. I have two and sing their praises. Best safe for the money IMO.

Fire ratings are "controversial" and vary by manufacturer (they can use different ways to calculate their respective fire ratings). Still, however their respective "fire ratings" were determned, in this case both safes (actually, they are RSCs rather than true "safes") are rated for the same time -- 1 hour. So that's a wash.
But steel is steel, so get the "most steel" you can in your price range, the thicker the steel the better. In your two choices, that'd mean going with the Diamond Back with the 3-guage steel door.
Also, see whch one has the best warranty (which also varies by manufacturer and if they are very different, that may be the dealmaker for you)...hopefully, it will be the Diamond Back.

Yeah. I looked at their site and it seems too good to be true. A 6', 1,000 pound safe delivered for $1,595. Their site was registered in 2008, so they look too new to be able to research.

Of those two RSCs, the Diamondback probably was the best choice (more steel)...glad you are happy with it.
