Hi
I need a bit of help with a pistol that has been in my loft for 17 years approx and only came to light the other day as i was looking to throw out some bits and pieces of my ex partners who walked out on sunday.
Anyway the pistol doesn't fire(luckily in present mind probably a good thing) JOKE by the way for any enforcement officers out there.
The gun is a' DUO' CAL 635 something OTSCHNO stamped in the left hand side.On the right hand side are the numbers 43434 its greeny grey in colour black handgrips 14 lines grooved in the barrel or slide, and the magazine is black andthere are three rounds in it . I think all of the bits are inside the gun that should be but there is a pin drilled through the back side of the casing just above the trigger and seems to hold the trigger down this pin does come out fairly easy but it doesn, tseem to make a difference to anything so i,m not sure whether it should be there. Anyway also should i have a licence for this gun? I have got shotgun and firearms licence but don,t want to put them in trouble. Can anyone help.?

Rambini - First, welcome to THR!

Second, given the laws concerning handguns in the UK, I would suggest throwing that pistol in the deepest, darkest lake you can find, and keeping quiet about ever having it.

If you have a friend that you could trust over there. Ask them. Go to your local Gun Club and tell them you're researching a firearm that you had seen and wanted more info on it or that you had seen one in a chat room and was curious on the legality of getting one.

Before you go throwing it away, Take all the parts off it that you can so that only the frame is left. Then destroy the frame at home or dewat it to English specs.

Over here it is worth around $400 so the parts are worth something to us. I can't remember if .25acp is legal for you or not.

Cheers yes some of the information looks good will have a in depth read later after making tee. The gun in the photograph on the right looks similar, the one in the middle the magazine/grip length looks to long. Thanks

I had a horrible feeling someone might say not a good idea get rid, but that is such a waste when i think now the surviving its done from another era. Like you say maybe i can check it out somemore and save the sweet thing, and if its best to get rid maybe one of you guys over the deep seas can salvage the bits i could find out how to do that later unless i might find myself in all sorts of trouble( am i dropping myself in deep poop here? Anyway the more i look at it the more i can,t destroy it that would be criminal.

Rambini - I understand your hesitance to destroy or get rid of the gun, but know that it it may very well end up in a prison sentence if authorities find out that you have it.

As an Englishman (or woman) you must know the laws regarding firearms by now and you must have seen the consequences of owning prohibited arms. As sad as it is, England does not play around when it comes to such things, and while preservation is the perferable outcome it's likely that it will simply be impossible without risking dire consequences.

In either case, I wish you luck, and look forward to hearing the outcome of your discovery!

You are right Kingpin008
I,m not sure of the laws as regards maybe saving it but i,m pretty sure automatics can,t go on a licence unless police etc, maybe at a pistol club i might be able to ,but i will enquire. I do know the laws are pretty strict here as they should be and sentiments can,t be part of the law, i don,t think ''well i thought it looked pretty and it must have some history '' would wash really, it would be nice for it to go to a good home though ''UHH sorry it,s creeping in again ,can it go back in the loft for another 17 years. ---Stopit. Will post the outcome, thanks for advice.

It's a Czech made .25 caliber, send it back to the Lady of the Lake....plunk. Not worth the trouble, by any means, probably a bring back from WWII.

Rambini:
A gunsmith should be able to deactivate it for you to current legal specs. There are no cartridge fired pistols allowed in England, so forget about getting it on a target pistol license.

"I do know the laws are pretty strict here as they should be."

A fine example of British brainwashing. Why should they be? To keep Her Royal Majesty's "subjects" in their place, of course. British criminals have all the guns they want and don't mind using them. And the British police keep killing innocent people. And the British "subject" keeps thinking the gun laws protect him.

The DUO is one of the best of the small auto pistols and was a favorite of German officers and officials. As such, it was a popular war souvenir, even with British troops who were "discouraged" from having weapons not issued to them.

Here is a picture, not good one, but then I didn't take it.
