P99 .40 Magazine Quality?????

My father has a new Walther P99 with about 1000 rounds through it. He just got it back from Walther...it was going full auto... So far, he has had three magazines blow up. All are the latest MecGar. Two had the plastic bottom plate fail. One time the ammo dumped during shooting and the other broke when the magazine hit the dirt...not cement. The third failure resulted when the spring pushed the follower so high that it stopped the slide from locking back on the last round. He only had four magazines and now one. What's up with these magazines?

Since there are no responses, I would conclude that all of these problems are isolated and not a general issue with the P99 .40 magazines.

With the two I have I've never had any of those problems, of course I probably only have about 5-600 through mine.

Gary,
I've heard of that happening with the .40 mags on the Walther forum, but I don't know any details. I don't know if it's with older mags, current mags or what.
(Sorry, I don't even remember the URL for the Walther forum.)

I too have never heard of this kind of magazine failure. Sounds pretty much like an isolated bad magazine incident. I assume Walther USA replaced them for you without much hassle?

Nope, not an isolated incident. I've had 2 out of 3 mags(with light blue followers) break while they were still in the gun. I called Walther on the first one and they shipped me a new one free of cost, I've yet to call them again but will on Monday regarding this most recent one.

Yeah, from what I have gathered, there is a bad batch of .40 mags out there. All of the plastic bases are failing in the same areas. Last I heard, Walther was replacing the mags but wouldnt admit that there is a problem.

I bought my p99 .40 a year ago, the first time I ever took it to the range it was firing fine until I handed it off to a buddy to test fire, its my first weapon and he is experienced. After he had fired 2 rounds the bottom of the magazine blew out. we inspected the second mag and noticed that the plastic around the bottom was cracking just from that days activities. I called the dealer that I bought the gun from and he offered me 2 temp clips and suggested I call Walther (s/w) and request the hi-cap replacements (12 rounds). The Walther support team told me that it was an issue w/ the 10 round mag's and more than willingly sent me 2 replacement hi-caps. I've had those mags for 9 months now and not a single issue. not sure if this helps, but that's my experience.
