What caliber is my gun?

I recently purchased an old rifle stamped V COLLETTE thought it was a .22 rimfire. when i went to shoot it it appears to be a centerfire. a .22 rimfire bullet fits perfect in the chamber and the gun mechanically appears fine. does anyone have some info on this gun and what type of cartridge this might use. any help would be appreciated.

Do you have any pictures?
What type of rifle is it? Bolt action, lever, break action, etc?

you half cock it and lift the the firing pin breech the ejector slides back and its ready to reload. single shot very unique to me. i will try to post some pictures later.

The weapon was produced by V. Colette, a gunsmith from Liege Belgium in the mid-19th century.
Most likely it is similar to a Flobert action, and probably takes a pin-fire cartridge.
You can't get shells for it.

Assuming that it's the proper cartridge for the gun (still to be determined), the cartridge is known as "6mm Flobert", but it's long obsolete, having been replaced by the 22 LR for most uses; these cartriges are NOT interchangeable, because modern 22s are much more powerful.

but ive never seen them with a bullet ....
obsolete tech. Flimsy too.

i researched flobert and it refers to 6mm rimfire cartridge. this gun looks just like the flobert action but the pin appears to hit center of the cartridge is there any variation to this ammo? thanks for all the help and info

You cant get anything to shoot out of it safely.

but the pin appears to hit center of the cartridge is there any variation to this ammo? Once again, it very likely used some variation of the Horizontal Pin-fire cartridge V COLLETTE was noted for.
The hammer hit the centrally located pin, which was contained in the cartridge, which hit the internal primer compound.
