Stupid Weather!

January 29, 2010, 11:00 PM
I've been putting together loads all week for my new airweight S&W 38.
However, we've got about three inches of snow on the ground, with twelve forecast! My range is closed on Sundays now----maybe I can squeeze in an hour after work Monday......

I hear ya...

Rolled up some .17 fireball, .243, and .22-250 this morning and the wind, on queue picked up to 15 MPH this afternoon.

Guess I will try for Sunday....

Yep, we got about 5" near Nastyville today(which is unheard of here) and killed a lot of my plans too. I live at the end of a dead end road so I'm always the last one to get out as I have to wait for the ice to melt because no one else drives on my part of the road. :banghead::cuss::(

I hear you. You are getting the storm that just went through here in western Arkansas yesterday. We got 6", and that is a whole lot for us. I was planning on going shooting myself. Now I will have to wait a couple of weeks.

I don't shovel snow and I shoot almost every week. :neener:

Yep, raining here. I am dieing to get out and shoot my new to me 5.5" Redhawk in .45 Colt.

Cold? Jacket, gloves, and a hat. Did I mention that the locker where I keep my stuff had such slick ice that if I stopped in the wrong spot, the car would just slide down? But with good snow tires, AWD, prudent planning, and yes, a healthy dose of throttle once the sliding began, I got where I needed to go.

So I made sure I drove gentle, and once I got to my locker, put one of my rear wheels on an exposed patch of gravel so it would grip. I didn't do that at first, and as soon as I let off the brake, the car just dragged its rear wheels. Oh, I also had to hold onto the roof rack to not fall on my keester!:what:

Remember, winter isn't the problem, its those darned thaws that cause all them problems.:p

I was planning on finishing load development on a new 45 acp round this weekend, but we got six inches on the ground and more on the way (Upper east TN).
So, that got canned.....

On top of that, word is that the State (TN) shut down TCIC due to the no one can buy guns this weekend. I was going to crank up the 4x4 and go to the gun show in Knoxville, but that got canned too.

Yeah, but you have to live in Texas to get that kind of weather. Everything evens out. :)

Have 8" of snow in Ava. 14* too...

Long Beach (LGB) is 60 degrees right now. The sun will be out so hopefully it will get closer to 65-70.

I am still running around in my trunks and a t-shirt after a quick morning surf. I took off the hoodie.

Ya know if we didn't have cold weather there would be no way to test those cold weather loads for accuracy would there.:D I happen to be in the clear part presently but at 7:00 am the temp was -2* in my yard with much the same for tomorrow. The 300 WSM and ammo is cooling down so that sunrise will see me at the range trying to see if it will do OK. Presently 4* and lots of moonshine so that if that yote bothers anything in my yard tonight I will get in some additional target practice.

and lots of moonshine

Maybe it's time to seek medical help for myself but my first thought was completely different from what you finished that sentence with.

I guess I need a drink...

CHEERS:neener: Wish I could again. I have gout so bad that walking down the wine isle at the grocery store makes my fingers and toes throb.:D

January 31, 2010, 12:22 AM
I loaded about 400 rounds of 45 waiting on good weather, 5 inches of snow and ice are preventing a good time...

You guys should try shooting in MI in the winter. I'm happy if the temp goes above 10 degrees....

For all you complaining about some snow in the southeast.. nut up and put an extra pair of gloves on.....geez.

Publius1688, you just gotta move a little further south.

January 31, 2010, 06:48 AM
Welcome to our world guys. Only make that 6 months of it. Wow.

January 31, 2010, 07:27 AM
Broken wheel, as far as I know MI only has 2 seasons. August and winter. lol

January 31, 2010, 08:14 AM
you can go to the range at Norris, its outside but it is open,
only $30.00 membership for 1 year

January 31, 2010, 10:58 AM
Use it to your atvantage. I dip phone books and catalogs in water and toss them in the yard to freeze solid. Shoot them with 38spl's, let em thaw and recover the bullets to cast again. Kind of a winter sport for me.

That's not nice. :( I grew up just outside of Cleveland OH, I have had my share of snow and ice. We just got 7 years of snow in one day. For most of the folks around here it's tragic and they raid the stores at the mention of snow. I just look at it as time for the family to sit around and load ammo together since we keep everything stocked up anyway.

If this weather doesn't break soon i will be out of primers though. That's gonna hurt some. Fortunately I have about 8k primed and ready to load. :) Let it snow.

When I was a young guy I loved the snow for hunting. If we got a real doozy of a storm Joe and I would grab our snow shoes and shot guns and head out. It's after you age that snow and cold begin to lose their glamour. lol
