No. No place to put the trace element.

I have seen the 12 guage tracer rounds I think at Cheaper Than Dirt. Horribly expensive and not sure what it was as far as buckshot or not.

There has been some tracer ammunition on the market for shotguns. I think it was called Tru-Trace. I bought some but never shot any

Aren’t tracers illegal for hunting because of the fire hazard?

I've tried some, probably more than 20 years ago. Trap loads, not buckshot. Made to show where you are shooting in relation to clay targets. For beginners I guess, or if you're working with an unfamiliar gun.

If I recall correctly, the tracer compound was packed in a small (steel?) pellet or cylinder that travelled along with the shot. Probably not showing the exact trajectory of the shot, but certainly giving you a rough idea of where your pattern is going.

could you not just coat the buck shot in the tracer compound?

Doesn't the expanding powder light off the tracer compound? Wouldn't the shotgun wadding shield the buck from the powder?

The tracer compound was in the wad. A local store had some and that is what I was told when I asked about it. I didn't think it would work very well and didn't buy any.

This topic has been discussed at length here:

This is a thread where I was asking about the same thing and had the idea of coating the shot in tracer chemicals (White Phosphorus for Americans, Barium compounds if you're chinese). What was decided was that if you were able to obtain the material legally, and handle it without sustaining severe chemical burns, then there would be almost no way to get the powder to stick onto the shot in a manner that would make it burn properly. Also with shotgun shells having traditional wadding the tracer material would never be ignited.

So really, assuming you can jump through the legal and physical loopholes of handling materials needed to make tracer rounds. Actually making tracer shot is very unreasonable.
