doofus of the day award

So I finished a 3 gun match here in Utah yesterday, and really struggled with the rifle stages. Due to the size of the range, we typically only shoot out to 200 yards. I spent too much ammo hitting the steel, to say the least. So then today I am cleaning my rifle and I notice that I had my A2 sights dialed to the 300 yard position, instead of my normal setting of dead on at 50 yards/200 yards. Hmmm, no wonder I couldn't hit like I thought I could. It just isn't a competition problem, it is a mental malf. But seriously, it is in the same category as, " locked my keys in my car" and I guess I won't show up to a match without CHECKING my sights.
Anyone have any "doofus of the day" instances similar to mine?

Doofus of the day? Yeah, right here!

I shot IDPA today. I'm really gunning for master class, but have yet to make it. Throughout the day, I'm hitting all my tgts, reloads are smooth as glass, no hostage shootings....I'm totally in the zone.

Until...

I get a procedural for using the wrong hand to set down a prop. 2.5 second penalty....I was harder on myself than anything else until I saw the scores....

67.30 1st place overall
69.13 2nd place overall
69.55 ME

If you take 2.5 seconds off my score, it would have bumped me to overall match winner with a 69.05. :banghead: :banghead:

It's always that one *little* thing....grrrr!

Shot in a Garand match last month. Shot 186 3X on the first stage. Then on the rapid-fire sitting, I shot 9x2 ,8x2, and 0x6. The sight screw had backed itself off half a turn, so during firing the sight backed down from 18 clicks to 8 or so and the last six rounds went into the berm, raining dirt down on the pit crew....

I got to the range early and had at least 30 minutes while we stood around jawing about Garands. Did I ever check a single thing on my rifle? Nope. Doh!

Put my Springy 1911-A1, targets, foam plugs/muffs, glasses, hat etc. into range bag.

Arrive at range, set up & send target out to the 7-yd line, and open box of ammo.....

*** ? ? ? This ammo is WAAAAY too long for the mags.....

Scooby Doo answer "RUH? ? " Picked up 2 boxes of 357 Ammo, instead of .45ACP. The 357 Vaquero is safely in the cabinet at home, along with the 45ACP ammo.

Memo to self: Think of shooting only 1 caliber per range trip, dummy

Sad thing is that John's times on the rifle stages were about the same as mine, and my sights were just fine. :)

Yeah, I sighted out an AR-15, because my dad had twiddled with the rear elevation knob and I didn't know it. I ended up trying to screw the front sight post up into the stratosphere to compensate...

Sigh...

More than once I have gone to the range and realized that I left my mags at home...:banghead:
