Hi,

I'm looking to buy a shoulder holster for an S&W Mod. 649 with a 2 1/8" barrel.

My main concern is balance. Most of the shoulder rigs I see with are for semi-auto handguns. In the pictures almost invariably there is the handgun on one side and one or two magazine holders on the other.

My guess is the mags help balance the handgun on the other side. Or am I wrong about this?

The S&W 649 is a small revolver but weighs a lot for it's size at 23 oz. unloaded.

Does anybody here who owns a revolver of comparable size and weight use a shoulder hoslter they are happy with? Or if not happy exactly, pleased enough with it that they have no major complaints about it?

Thanks,

Mike

Quality shoulder hosters are not cheap, but the best are comfortable, secure, and will last you decades. I recommend the Alessi "Bodyguard" rig, and it will come with a double speedloader pouch on the other side. This doesn't exactly "balance" your gun, but it is enough, and they also come with a belt tie down on the ammo side, but I never use it. That way the entire rig is way above the belt line, and only requires a single grasp of the gun to utilize the pull-thru snap in the triggerguard area. Very slick design, been around for 30 years, works fine, and NOTHING is faster to draw in a shoulder rig, period. http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m247/matquig/DSC05544.jpg

Bianchi X-15 is a good, relatively reasonably priced shoulder holster. Plus, it is a "vertical" holster and you don't "sweep" people as you carry..........

I carried my 49 and then my 649 in this Bianchi #209 for quite a few years as my backup during the winter under my uniform coat. Very comfortable.

OldCavSoldier,
You aren't sweeping anything if your hand isn't on the gun.

I love to sweep with my pistol. It clears everything out of the way so I can get a clear shot...................

I never sweep with a handgun. The muzzle gets dirty and I have to lean way over to get the muzzle on the floor.
