I have an 1187 that I bought in '89 or '90 and have a few questions after shooting my first three gun match with it. Can I put an extention tube on without perminently changing it? Can I go back to the stock config for hunting? Also if I put the mag extention on can I put a pistol grip stock on or would that be aginst the law? Basicly I want to set it up for more 3 gun matches but would like to be able to return it to stock config if I go hunting. Thanks for your input.

I'll try to answer at least part of your questions : In regards to putting a magazine extention on an 11-87 , it requires a perminent modification to the magazine tube. The square dents at the forward end of the magazine tube that holds the spring retainer in place have to be removed in order to allow shells to feed past . This is usualy done by drilling and/or grinding . If you then remove the extention there is no ability to properly keep the stock magazine cap from working loose. (extentions are generaly retained from coming loose by a barrel to extention clamp)
Your legal question I can't answer .

If the gun had a pistol grip on it to begin with, being preban, the extension tube would be legal. The Clinton crime bill prohibits pistol grips and greater then 5 round capacity for autos. Most 3 Gunners use conventional stocks, the notable exception being Taran Butler who has developed a technique to reload while keeping the gun on the shoulder.
