Navy Arms is a current and past importer of European manufactured functional replicas of antique muzzleloaders. Yours was made in Italy. I am sure there are some more marking, look and post them. Also so some more pictures would help id the model.

The XVII is one of the marks applied at Italian proof houses that indicates the year of proofing, in this case 1961. The PN is another Italian proof house mark that means " for black powder".

That is an Italian-made reproduction of the Model 1841 U.S. Rifle, commonly called the "Mississippi rifle" because it was used in the Mexican War by a regiment from that state under command of Jefferson Davis, of whom more would be heard.
I think they were made by Antonio Zoli. XVII is 1961.
So, not used in the Civil War; just a nice shootable percussion rifle.
