Hi,

I was wondering if new barrels will fit vintage 870 Wingmasters. And does anybody know what year the Vent Rib barrels were introduced? And also when RemChokes were introduced? How about steelshot safe barrels?

as far as i know any like chambered 870 barrel will swap out. i am unsure if you can put a 3 inch chambered barrel on a 2 3/4 inch chambered gun. my 870, 16 gauge, was made in the late 50's and it works with a skeet barrel i'm guessing that was made much later.

in my opinion the skeet barrel has a nice pattern with steel. works good on upland birds and is pretty good at the skeet range.

Yes, they all swap. But just because the barrel says 3" doesnt mean you can use them. Stick with 2 3/4".

The barrels will interchange.

To use longer shells than 2 3/4", both the receiver and barrel have to be 3" or 3.5" to use shells of those lengths.

I assume you are referring to 12 ga.

I have mid 70s 20 gauge and am stuck with the barrel it came with N or Z serial conundrum.

I want to put a short barrel on it for HD but nothing available I could find.

Yes, that's true.

The 12 Gauge Wingmaster has been the same since 1950, except that 3" and the 3.5" chambers have become available since then. A brand-new barrel will fit a first-year Wingmaster.

However, the 20 Gauge Wingmaster didn't have a scaled frame until the late 1970s. Earlier onese were 12 Gauge receivers, made to fit 20 Gauge parts. Barrels for those tend to be hard to find, and they have not been made for a long time, so they're only available used -- if someone is willing to sell just the barrel, which doesn't happen very often.
