I have a DSII and the bolt is not dropping from the locking notches. Opening up the gun shows that the rebound lever is slipping past the bolt and not raising the rear. What is the fix? Do I need to fit a new bolt, rebound lever or both? And is this a job that a hobbyist can do or is it best left to the professionals?

The Colt "SF" framed DS-II has no rebound lever.
The locking bolt is operated by the "nose" on the front of the trigger.

You either need a new trigger or bolt, or even both.

The "Fix" on these later Colt's is installation of a new part since they aren't designed to be reworked or refitted.
This is done by pulling parts out of a bin full of new parts and test fitting until a correct fit is obtained.

This makes problems.
If you order a new part, there's no guarantee it'll fit correctly and you CANNOT "make it fit" without destroying the case hardened coating and ruining the part.
Since no local gunsmith is going to have a bin full of new parts either, your best option is to send the gun in to Colt.
They'll inspect the gun to make sure what the problem is, then fit a new part or parts.
Possibly, they'll do this for free on your gun since this may well be a factory defect.

At most, you''ll have to pay shipping charges there and back, and at most one hour of labor.
For that, you get a correct repair, and possibly for free.

Sorry, it's a late Detective Special, 2nd issue. It has the V-spring and rebound lever.

If you have an action problem with a second issue DS, this is strictly a job for Colt.
These actions are complex and difficult to work on.

I'd send it in to Colt for correct service.
