I have a winchester with a black butt plate that keeps turning white even after a clean it. I put armorall on it and that gets it back to black for a few weeks but then it turns white again. Any clue as to what is going on?

Fairly common on the old plastic butt plates Winchester used back then.

I assume it is some sort of chemical leaching out of the plastic.
Or, it could be a Fungus Amungus growing on the plastic.

I generally clean it off with Hoppes #9 solvent soaked patch and toothbrush, and re-oil with common gun oil like CLP or something.

Never had it come back after that treatment that I know of.
