Can anybody explain why the snaps on snap-loop holsters are always on top?

My thinking is the snaps would be on the bottom side of the belt and the unbroken leather loop along the top of the belt.

I had never thought of it, but can offer some speculation. It might be possible for the belt to wedge in the snaps and separate them when you pull the pistol out of the holster.
