Let's say I start a gun company: Reproduction Arms!
Nightcrawler

Here's an idea. Let's say your good buddy Nightcrawler became a multi-billionaire, and bored with expensive water and supermodels, decided to start a gun company or two.
One of the gun companies I start is dedicated to making modern reproductions of classic firearms. These firearms would come in two basic variations, classic and modernized.
Classic models would be virtually identical/interchangable to the classic weapons, albeit made with modern metallurgy. They would be able to withstand liberal use of +P ammunition, for example, within the strength limits of the design.
Modernized guns would be based on the classic designs, but would feature improvements like modern sights, easier to manipulate controls, better finishes, etc.
Now, many old guns require much machining and finishing, but with my massive industrial base I'd hopefully be able to sell them at an affordable price. Still, you'd probably expect to pay as much for one of my classic pistols (with good, old fashioned, super deep beautiful blueing and walnut stocks) as you would for a high-end commercial 1911 type.
So. What guns would you like to see Reproduction Arms produce? Note that one pistol we would NOT produce would be the M1911/1911A1. This pistol is already seeing healthy production in modernized and even classic format, and there'd be little need for us to futher clutter an already crowded market.
Pistols we WOULD offer?
-The P-08 Luger. Variations with 4" and 6" barrels, in 9x19mm. Would also produce a .45ACP version, similar to the original.
-The Walther P38. Similar to the postwar P-1, but (hopefully) modified to feed JHP ammo and withstand +P usage.
-The TT-33 Tokarev, strength-enhanced to handle the hotter ammo.
-The Mauser Pistol, in 9x19mm and 7.62x25mm. All would feature detachable box mags, but could be fed from stripper clips as well. Would also produce a .45ACP version similar to, but in much better quality than the Chinese Mauser. 4", 5", and 6" barrels.
Rifles?
-Mauser 98, in 8mm, .30-06, .270 (long action), and .308 and .243 (short action). Would include matching bayonet.
-Enfield No.4 Mk. 1, in .303 and .308.
-M1903, 03A3, and 03A4 Springfield rifles.
-Winchester 1892 (.45 Colt, .357 Mag, .44-40, .44 Mag, .41 Mag)
-Winchester 1895 (.30-06, .270, 7.62x54mmR). Available in "military" config that would have bayonet fittings and could be fed from strippers.
-Trapdoor Springfield, .45-70, .444 Marlin, .450 Marlin, and .50 Alaskan.
-Winchester 1886, .45-70, .444 Marlin, and .500S&W if doable, pressure-wise.
Shotguns?
-M1897 Winchester, in original and trench gun variants.
-Winchester lever action shotgun, (unsure of model designation).
So what else would you like to see? What could I make for you?

.223 Mini-Mauser
.223 Mini-SKS
.223 Mini-1 Garand
All three shall take 10-rd .223 stripper clips and be compatible with each other and shall have polished carbon fiber stocks.

Skunky, I think you're missing the point, buddy. But methinks you're just hankering for a non-Mini-14 .223 Autoloader that you could own in that misguided place you live in, yes? :D

Whitworth rifle with updated Davidson scope. Unlike original Davidson, this would be made by Leupold and being nitrogen filled, fog-free. Should come with bullet mould & swager, patch cutter, cleaning tool (remove fouling from bore), nipple wrench/oiler. Yep, they may ban sniper rifles but they won't get our sharpshooter rifles.
STGW 44 in semi-auto.

Webley revovlers, in .38 Special, original .38S&W, .45ACP, and .44 Special. Lockwork would be improved to handle +P loads, despite being a break-top. 9mm Luger would be there in the small-framed model as well.
Would include a limited run of Webley-Fosberry automatic revolvers.
We would also make a reproduction Patterson (Pederson?) device for our Springfield rifles, firing (probably) .30 Luger and using STEN magazines (or 7.62x25mm and using PPSH-41 stick mags). Maybe one in .30 Carbine, using carbine magazines?
Reproduction Federov self-loading rifle.
FN-49 self loading rifle, in .30-06 and 8mm Mauser.
SVT-40 Tokarev self-loading rifle, in 7.62x54mmR.
G43 Self-loading rifle, in 8mm Mauser.
Mosin-Nagant M1891/30 Sniper rifle, with reproduction PU scope.

Broomhandle would be nice.
All in classic configuration.

Improving the quality huh?
Ok the High Standard Sentinel and the H&R 999 nine shot revolvers.
Granted I like the old smith wheel guns, however, the market is kinda thin on quality rimfire revolvers. Improve these, in a price point. Teaching new shooters, sentimental for some of us, and good for plinking and small game.
Granted not the same as say a model 18 ( my fave) , but I'd like to have one of each just the same. Blue steel with nice wood grips....please!!

How about this?
M1895 Nagant revolver, with a good trigger, in .30 Carbine.

Mags might be a problem for the 8mm FG-42, but I'd make a .308 version that took FAL mags.

Second the FN-49, Second the FG-42, BAR, Bren, Makarov, Seond the SVT-40, Hakim, Second the TT-33, CZ-52 (better firing pins!!!), Mas 49 series (assuming ammo is more readily available), Broomhandle of course, MG-42, some Mosins and some Enfields, 1903, K-31's. I'd love to have a PPSh-41 in 9x19 or 9x18.
A mini-Thompson in .22 LR would be a gas!

the basic 38-44 Heavy Duty, but this time in 4" bright nickel w/fixed sights, and in .45 ACP. Please pump the metallurgy so's it'll handle .45 Supers while you're at it:D !

I also like the idea of a Martini in modern caliber.
Oh, and a .22 Broomhandle.

November 17, 2003, 07:31 PM
hey... what about that borscty-thingie that led to the luger? That would be kinda cool. :) A 1941 Johnson and MP-4-whatist "granddaddy of assault rifles" would be pretty cool to, just to see how they worked.
As far as what I'd actually plunk down money for though... a percussion sharps carbine, a '60 or '73 Colt repro, and that 1892 you were talking about. Of course, all of those are already in reproduction, but a Nightcrawler special might be fun.
-K
PS.. you DO realize if you make Thompsons, you have to put out a firing "M41A Pulse Rifle" line as well, right? :)

I concur with others who have mentioned the BAR. We really need another company producing them to compete with Ohio Ordnance Works. While OOW BARs are top-notch, their lengthy and laborious machining process keeps their prices high. Put some of your billions to use, Nightcrawler, and research a more efficient manufacturing technique so we can get the price down to around $1k.

All you guys that want Thompsons and Grease Guns...you'd better have your paperwork in order, 'cause I ain't makin' 'em with 16" barrels. :barf:
LOL
I second and third the BAR, though an 18 pound .30-06 semiauto seems a bit much to me. *shrug* Historical value, I guess.

And for that matter, the other Browning autoloader, the Auto 5 shotgun. (recently discontinued) A new Sweet Sixteen would look nice under my Christmas tree!
A 1903A1 Springfield with semi-auto Pederson Device
The U.S. Model 1917 rifle, as made by Remington
A long-range Creedmoor Rolling Block that's not an Italian copy. (I understand those sold by Remington's Custom Shop are actually imports)
A Browning HiPower with tangent rear sight, ala' Inglis manufacture, and could it be chambered in 7.62x25 Tokarev? (Some were offered in 7.65 Luger)
A Beretta BM-59, and could you get the 20-rd magazines down below $80.00 each? (I feel lucky I managed to scrounge 4 for mine)
A Galil ARM in .308, again, with affordable magazines.
A steel or stainless steel AR-10, using a gas piston, something that would make Armalite and Knight's Armament sit up and take notice.
A true reproduction of the pre-64 Winchester Model 70

Hmm....
A 1903A1 Springfield with semi-auto Pederson Device
You want that in .30 Luger, .30 Tokarev or .30 Carbine? :D
A Browning HiPower with tangent rear sight, ala' Inglis manufacture, and could it be chambered in 7.62x25 Tokarev? (Some were offered in 7.65 Luger)
Yeah, but .30 Luger and 9mm Luger are based on the same case. Don't think the 25mm long Tok case would fit in a HP grip.
A Beretta BM-59, and could you get the 20-rd magazines down below $80.00 each? (I feel lucky I managed to scrounge 4 for mine)
If I made one taking M14 magazines, would it really be significantly different than Springfield's M14 carbine?

Some of the mondo-Banduki British double rifles, .577 or 600 Nitro Express. A Brevex-Mauser in .416 Rigby (Free case of ammo too, please), and finally some good reproduction buffalo rifles in 50-110, 45-90, and other such thundersticks. Hmmmmm.... another vote for some of the more obscure or hard-to-acquire S&Ws. Registered Magnums (Magna?) anyone? Mike mine in blue, 5" tube, please.
