How were they made in times passed, how are they made today?
I've sought info on the internet on this, but to no avail.
Seems like it would be interesting to know.
Formed from a short cylinder of Steel with a center hole, on a Mandril? Rolled somehow? Or?
Anyone know? Or have any links?

Some are rotary forged, some are swaged- see http://technology.calumet.purdue.edu/met/higley/NotesOnHammerForgedBarrels.pdf for a description of the processes involved. This article focuses more on rifle barrels, but the same processes were used on shotguns as well. Ithaca was and is famous for its rotary forged barrels, for example ( http://www.ithacagun.com/ithacabarrels.html ).
Barrels on older guns, both rifle and shotgun, were often forge welded- see http://www.damascus-barrels.com/index.html for information.
