Hmm rusty brass?

I just got really confused. I was sorting some brass I had laying around and I noticed about %10 had this funny color. I looked almost like rust spots. This brass was resized and tumbled at some point and then it sat for about 2 months in an Akrobin in my garage. I have no idea if it looked this bad before. It is present on both S&B and Win brass. Others from the same bin are fine. Is this just some crud that the tumbler didnt clean? Is the brass no really brass and can actually rust? I have seen little green spots once in a while (and discarded) but this is new.

Any idea where this stuff is coming from? What is it? I hope the picture shows it clear enough.

That is discoloration due to moisture, and it will happen to all kinds of brass. It does not affect the strength of the brass and it is not going to come off very easily even in the tumbler. Load, shoot and tumble, repeat until you loose those cases or they come clean.

What HSMITH said. That brass doesn't look all that bad. Wait 'til you start picking up brass that you lost in the woods and find about 4 months later - now that's some bad looking brass!

Cool beans. Thanx for letting me know. I guess I'll throw it back in the pile.
