For entertainment purposes only. Rather than post a poll, I'll let the responses speak instead.

You've been selected to command a Delta Force unit deep in central Africa. Your mission is to train the local militia to fight the rebels. On your way to the initial LZ the C-130 Herc carrying all your gear gets hit and goes down, destroying everything on board. You and your 160 men were on another transport and are all right, but you only have your sidearms.* Upon arrival in the area you make arrangements with a local arms dealer to purchase replacement rifles for your men until such time as you can be resupplied with what you need (no timetable is available, could be awhile). You discover some good choices but each has a drawback. Money is no problem. Which do you choose?

*I know IRL you'd never let your rifle more than three inches from your side, so please forgive this one point.

1. Chinese SKS rifles, ten strippers each, about 80% grade.
2. Enfield #1 MkIII .303 rifles, five strippers each, 99% grade, corrosive ammo only.
3. M1 Carbines, 90% grade, with more 15 round mags than you can count.
4. Mosin-Nagant carbines, 99% grade, plenty of strippers, non-corrosive ammo.
5. AK-47 rifles, 70% grade, one 30 round magazine each.

Keep in mind that you need to start running recon patrols ASAP.

I don't consider corrosive ammo a drawback.

I'd probably go with #1 and pick up rifles and ammo off of the rebels' bodies.

Isn't that more the Green Beret's bailiwick?

Probably go with #1.
Easy to get ammo and replacement weapons locally, I'd think.

#1, thats 100 rds per man.

#3 no limit to ammo?

160 guys with bunches of 15 shot mags is pretty good. Sure they aren't elephant guns, but neither is anything on the list.

If money is no object seems like you could "designate" a marksman or two with a Moisin or Enfield. You have enough guys.

Money no object? I'd buy the rebels farms......

You might do a little research about what Special Forces Operational Detachment D does, as opposed to a "regular" Specail Forces group.

CSM Eric Haney has written a book called, "Inside Delta Force." He's the real deal. There are a number of books out about Special Forces units and training.

Or just walk into the average gun shop, there are bound to be several overweight guys in torn camos posing as S.F. soldiers.....

I'm reading Colonel Beckwith's book on Delta right now. I'm only as far as 1968, so I may have mistaken Delta's modern role.
