Hey there,
I have a 12 gauge Acier Cockerill that I inherited. Trying to find out detail on it and the value (if any). Here's some pictures and information.
1st barrell Choke 17.3 (under it there's 18.3)
The other barrel says Choke 17.7 (under it says 18.3)
p.1K270.2 is on there as well.
There's a bunch of scription markings in it as well.
Where's the best place to look on the internet for information on this gun?
Also, I live in NJ and my parents are in MA where's the best place to sell?
Let me know if you need additional info. Pictures attached!
Thanks! Eric

From my limited knowledge, it appears to be either French of Belgian. There are sites I can't find at the moment that explain them all.
You might try doublegunshop.com - those folks should be able to tell you easily

I'm no expert on these, but here's a little...
Acier means Steel. I've heard Cockerill described as both a steel maker and a process.
I do not see the ELG that would mean it's been built and proofed in Belgium. OTOH, I dunno what the French marks are.
The fact that the screw slots line up and that has the side clips on the fences indicates it was made with some care. IMO, it's a mid level, boxlock game gun.
These were often made by guilds of craft persons rather than by a named maker.
Almost certainly this is chambered for the older 2.5" ammo rather than our more modern stuff. And re chambering will be costly or impossible.
Chokes will probably be on the tight side.
And it will handle very well. Betcha weight runs 6-6.5 lbs and it balances right at the hinge.
French guns like this do not pack much weight in the market, and that's a shame. Unless of course, one wants to buy a decent SxS of this type without leaving the kids barefoot and hungry.
Market value here and now, say $200-500 depending on condition, chamber length, choke and how pretty the wood is.
Lots of shotguns came back from Europe in the later 40s in dufflebags. Bet this was one.

Dave, look again at the last photo. Aren't those ELG proof marks at top and bottom of left side?

I believe the PV and the the script marks below the 12 in the diamond marks are Belgian, but I am not positive

I stand corrected. Belgian proofs. I was looking for that triangle.
Still, it looks like a nice gun.

The 18.3 or 4 will be the bore diameter in mm. The 17.3 and 17.7 will be the choke designations in mm.
There looks to be a lion above the 12, which i also believe to be a Belgian mark
