A while back, I posted a "Second Amendment Quote Of The Day" on my blog.
That led to someone leaving a comment claiming that there was a fine line between gun owners and terrorists.
Here's how the exchange went:
A few days ago I posted the following Second Amendment quote of the day:
“False is the idea of utility that sacrifices a thousand real advantages for one imaginary or trifling inconvenience; that would take fire from men because it burns, and water because one may drown in it; that has no remedy for evils, except destruction. The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm those only who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.” — Cesare Beccaria, “On Crimes and Punishments”
That posting generated the following comment:

I am worried that gun rights advocates like the guy who wasted 3 policemen in Pittsburg yesterday are getting out of control in defense of gun rights.
To some gun rights advocates any attempt to discuss the limits of gun rights is an act punishable by death
There seems a blurry fine line developing between the terrorists and the extremist supporters of gun rights.
I think they’ve all started to go off the deep end in defense of their beliefs..even defying the police. I have no doubt that many gun rights advocates would bar the doors and start shooting if the supreme court ever came up with a ruling they didn’t agree with.
My response is somewhat lengthly, so I thought it may be better if I addressed this comment this way:

With all due respect, I can’t agree with your synopsis.
Out of a nation that has over 100 million gun owners, the acts of one obviously deranged individual, as heinous as they may be, are far from a blanket confirmation of the beliefs of all gun owners.
