Hey Mods Admins and Managers in general

I was wondering if it were possable to get a board up for sub guns both semi and full auto (mainly more semi auto)

I have had questions on a few different guns of this catagory and most times dont know where to post and the general gun room seems too broad to get any specific detailed answers

Id say just simply Sub-Guns because as we know not all are full auto or burst models but there are pleanty of pistol chambered rifles carbines and the like to warrent a seperate place for discussion

Thanks for your time

If it has a buttstock post it in rifles if not, post it in pistols.

Dimis - the staff of THR is discussing the merits of your suggestion.

I dunno, I see a lot of needless confusion coming from yet another subforum. I could see if it were a subforum for strictly FA guns, but leaving it open for semi and FA seems a bit pointless.

Of course, this is just one man's opinion, worth about what you paid for it.

If we do decide to add a forum, it will be for NFA type firearms. Semiautomatic only "subguns" would most likely not be included. Those would continue to be welcomed in the Rifles forum.

The suggestion does include semiautomatic only pistol-round rifles. That part of the suggestion will not be in any new forum, if there is one. If that is the deal breaker, then the suggestion would be rejected without further discussion necessary.

FWIW, I think that's the right way to go about it. I'm personally not all that interested in NFA goodies, but it would be nice to have a forum that dealt with such things specifically, rather than having a bunch of topics opened in the other forums.

And, like you said, the other types of semi-auto only and pistol-caliber rifle topics fit better elsewhere anyhow. Guess that's why they pay ya'll the big bucks! :)

Mal that sounds pretty good to me and thanks for clearing up where to post on my semi auto sub gun questions

If we do get a new forum for NFA items will it be broken up by catagory i.e. SBR,SBS,Auto etc?

or would we just go with a catch all NFA Restricted Items board?

thank you again for the concideration

Any new forum wouldn't have subcategories initially. We'll see how it goes with a forum dedicated to NFA guns and gear only. If it needs tweaking in the future, that can be discussed.

The NFA forum is now available for your questions and posts about machine guns, suppressors, etc.

Wonderful idea! Should both increase good traffic and decrease some of the less valuable contributions.

Let's not clutter it up with subforums until we find out we need them due to traffic jams.

Yep, a sticky rules thread is being discussed.

... and great idea for making it a members only section like S&THuh? It isn't a members only section. It is currently viewable by non-members and non-logged in members.

Huh? It isn't a members only section. It is currently viewable by non-members and non-logged in members

That seems like the way to go. You won't be dealing with actual occurances in the real word, which, it seems to me, was the motivation behind the S&T lockdown. This will be just another technical gun forum.

Thanks, it was truly a team effort that started with Dimis' suggestion. And we even had a moderator volunteer to moderate the forum!

Seems the first week of business is good in the NFA forum. Let's hope it stays active.

BTW, there are probably some stickies that should be put at the top of the forum, any suggestions/contributions would be appreciated.

Stickies:

A simple glossary of the NFA terms.

A short history lesson of the NFA '34, GCA '68, and FOPA '86 as they affect NFA weapons.

A basic "Yes, it is legal to..." and "No, it is NOT legal to ..." primer. (e.g.: No, you do not need a "Class III permit" to own a machine gun. Yes, silencers/suppressors are legal in most states. No, you may not convert a semi-auto to full-auto no matter what. (Unless you become a Class 2 SOT manufacturer.)

A basic description of the types of FFL and types of SOT.

Link to the ATF's NFA FAQ: http://www.atf.gov/firearms/nfa/

Link to a state-by-state Title II legalities list like this one: http://www.mp5.net/info/sbsconr.htm (Or a list of our own.)

As always, stickies promise to reduce the number of times folks have to type the same information, but the number of folks who ever read them seems to be inversely proportional to the amount of information contained therein.

Less may actually be more.

I think it is my new favorite subforum, or it definitely will be once it is built up. I honestly don't know how we got along without one until now.

I PM'd taliv about some ideas for stickied threads. We agreed that a library thread along the lines of Bart's in Rifle Country works best. I've got a few links, a lot actually, that could be in such a thread, but with all the information out there, everyone will need to contribute the best stuff that they can find.

maybe a sticky on the process of purchase/ownership of an NFA item
links to ATF website would work for this as well

oh and a warning about discussing illegal activities i.e. converting to full auto illegaly etc. will not be tolerated along with other rules that im sure someone more qualified than myself could write up
