Anybody know of websites with information on various powder brands/types sensitivity to temperature change?

I've been usunf 4064 for years now but somebody told me it was very temperature sensitive.

The british cordite was supposed to be more sensitive than most . I have some data for a30-06 load but the powder is not identified .The curves for velocity and pressure are not linear , the pressure rises more rapidly then velocity as the temperature increases. Proper reloading info should specify temperature which in a lab is usually 68 F. The data I have shows 42,630 psi at 68 F and rises to about 46,000 at 104 F. Try to develop loads under the temps you are going to shoot and keep ammo out of the sun.

According to Hodgdon's web site, 4064 is about halfway between Varget and WW748 for temperature sensitivity-velocity, in .308 using 168-gr HPBT match bullets.

That's close enough for me. If you have a good load, why switch? Is your shooting under circumstances where that's really a problem??

BTW, I've never had a problem with my developed-at-85°F loads in 748 spiking pressure when I fired them at 110°F.

In handgun loads I've noticed certain traits of certain powders, but I've also learned what happens through MY gun may not necessarily happen through yours.

All very scientific; as always, testing required.

This is precisely why I have switched to Hogdon extreme powders in all my hunting loads. I have seen a 2-3 inch difference in 100 yards going from the Sierras to Bakersfield.

Still a minute of deer but fox and squirrel have a good enough chance against me already.:scrutiny:
