FMJ 380 Target Ammo Question.

February 12, 2010, 10:53 AM
Guys I need to stock up on some range ammo in 380 for my new Diamondback and Mustang and need advice on what's good and what's not so good.
It's out there online but it isn't at bargain basement prices.
I do see a lot of S&B and Prvi Partizan at reasonable prices but have never tried it.
In fact the only ammo I have used in my Mustang PocketLite was some Win WWB.
Since I know zero about the many brands available and want to stay away from dirty or unreliable ammo.

I've had excellent results with S&B in 9MM in the past, so I just ordered some S&B .380 for $17.95 a box. It gets decent reviews over on the LCP forum. That's what I'll be shooting it in.

My Diamondback was spotty with a number of different rounds with the exception of Winchester fmj with flat point, but after a little more break in it is handling most brands without incident.

Prvi Partisan is a little bit dirty, but it has always gone bang for me. I have
also fired Blazer Brass, Mag Tech, PMC, WWB - all have been fine for me. I have had numerous failures to fire with Fiocchi. Bought 500 rounds - hard primers(nickel) I believe. Got my moneys worth tho -got to shoot this ammo 2 or 3 times :) I have read of problems with MFS on the Kahr P380 Forum

In JHP I have tried Aguilla, Gold Dots and Double Tap. Am very pleased with all

I've got a Beretta Cheetah .380 and a CZ 83 .380 and have shot Fiocchi, Prvi Partizan, Aguila and Blazer Brass through them. All shot fine with no problems. I bought the Aguila and Blazer Brass at a local pistol range. Online I buy from Cabela's, The Sportsman's Guide and Midway USA.

I've been wondering the same thing for awhile now. I need to pick a range ammo and stick with it. it's just been so hard to find decent quantities of 380.

No such thing as .380 'target' ammo. As in match grade ammo. However, you'll have to try a box of as many brands as you can to find the ammo your pistols both shoot well and cycle the action. The price of said ammo means nothing.
Don't buy ammo in bulk until you've found the ammo your pistols like. That'd be both shoot well and cycle the action.

Any S&B ammo I've shot has been quality stuff!.....Have some .380 Wolf Gold HP made by Prvi that has been some of the most accurate ammo ever ran through the Beretta 84.

I have no qualms at all about purchasing or shooting either S&B or Prvi.

I bought the Cabela's Herters brand brass .380 ammo and it's worked fine in my LCP. No dirtier than anything else, and it's faster than WWB.

They have 2 types of Herters, Russian steel cased, and Indonesian brass cased, stick with the brass.

It's $150 for 500 rounds, and Cabelas is doing a $5 ship fee for a $150 purchase, so $15.50/box delivered. Not too bad in these trying times.

I've always used WWB since is the cheapest I can get locally. However, I haven't seen any in a loooooong time. I'd say for know you may have to buy whatever you can find.
