Interesting quiz. I got 80%, one of my wrong answers I changed from the correct one (Bat Masterson). About half I knew, the rest I guessed.

I got an 80 per cent.

I take issue with at least one question - - About the Masterson revolver - - The questions about his preferences cover the SAA in FOUR, 5-1/2, and 7-1/2 inch barrel lengths. Actually, the first choice should have been 4-3/4, not four. Anyway, it was closest, so I chose that one, and they scored me as correct.

Very interesting quiz. Thanks for posting it. I never would have seen it otherwise. I got 50% but still enjoyed taking the quiz.

80%, should have been 90% but I made a stupid choice on an answer that I knew.

Hey, guys. Shame on you - this furriner just scored 90% :D

The wrong one was the Masterson question.

Um guys...let's not give other people hints on the correct answer. Let's see what they do on their own.

Surprised myself a little by getting 9 out of 10. It's been a while (1994) since I was really into the Old West stuff.

80% :). Only minimal guessing. Missed 4 and 5. I'd heard about that muzzle-up carry somewhere...sorta makes sense, esp. if he was cocking it by swiping the hammer on the pants lip.

I would take issue with the Bat Masterson question. Colt records show that he ordered one of the first nickel plated Peacemakers with a 7 1/2" barrel long before he ordered the famous pair of 4 3/4" barreled nickel plated single-actions. The only 4" barreled gun associated with Masterson was on a TV series.

As for Wes Hardin - during his El Paso years he was known to carry his pistols in a special vest. I doubt that he would have been interested in a draw that required both hands - unless he intended to hit someone with the butt.

But it's all in fun - however the editor will get letters.

Jim:

I have read about gamblers and others that would suspend a revolver muzzle-up on the end of a string under a vest. Then when seated they'd reach up, grab the gunbutt, and break the cord as they made a draw. In theory this could work.

Colt's model 1877 double-action revolvers had a world-class mainspring. I can't see any serious gunfighter taking the chance that the hammer wouldn't come all the way to full-cock with a catch-the-hammer-on-the belt-or-pants draw. That sort of thing could get a man killed.

I got 70%, but changed one of my answers at the last minute. Looking at it again I should have known right from the start, the right answer since a picture is right next to the question.

I got a 90%, but I gotta admit that I was rollin' the dice on some answers.
Missed Bat's barrel length.
