I want to convert a Smith and Wesson DAO Model 64-5 to single/double action.

I just acquired a double-action-only Model 64-5 with the bobbed hammer.

Am I correct that the "standard" configuration of the Model 64 was issued with single-action AND double-action capability?

Should I just order a hammer assembly from Smith and Wesson?

Do I need to order anything other than just the hammer assembly?

Is part #049070000 correct for this application?

What does "OBS" mean?

I believe OBS means obsolete. As in, you can't get them anymore.

Depending on how the SA was rendered inoperable, you might also need a new trigger.

Call Brownell's & talk with them. They have almost all S&W parts, prob. not obsolete, but yours is modern. Disassemble the pistol and look at the hammer & trigger, like rc suggested, and chat up the gang at Brownell's. They will help you figure it out, and they have what you'll need. Current or recent hammers don't have the firing pin (called the "hammer nose") mounted on the hammer - as do older hammers. Smith & Wesson is either out of the older style, or holding back what they have for they're own use.

You can find older style hammers at www.e-gunparts.com but they are usually second hand, recovered from scrapped revolvers. They also have triggers.

Hammers may or may not be listed under Model 64, but if not look under Model 10.

Keep in mind that these revolvers were not made on a "drop-in" basis. You may get lucky, but often the sear (little lever mounted in the front of the hammer) will require fitting.
