My uncle recently passed on and I was fortunate enough to inherit his firearm collection. One of which is a 1947 winchester model 12. It has minor surface rust, grease, dust, and gunk within the guns action (hasn't been fired since 1960's). I want to restore but can't find how to take the barrel off the reciever (I'm assuming it's a take down model). Any pointers on disassembly and good metal cleaners? Thanks for the help.

good metal cleaners? Use 0000 (Extra Fine) steel wool & oil to remove surface rust without harming the bluing.
Rub lightly & keep moving and it will look like a new gun when you get done.

Remove the rear guard screw #46, and swing the trigger group down and out of the receiver.
Do Not pull the trigger & snap the hammer with it out!

Pay attention to where everything goes when it comes out of the receiver.

Clean internals with solvent and a old toothbrush.

I cringe to think how this might turn out.
Odds are good the gun is in better shape than you realize and you could easily end up buggering up a very desirable piece.
I suggest you take it to a professional (or a more-experienced collector) and see what they say.
