In factory ammo don't know but I have seen slugs up to 2,000 grains in larger bores and at least 1,000 grains in 12 guage.

what do grains translate into ounces?
or moreso how many grains does it take to equal an ounce?

IIRC 7200 grains equals 1 pound. Divided by 16 ounces, equals 450 grains per ounce. (Did the math in my head, so it might be worth checking.)

7000g in 1 lb, so 437.5g per ounce. Biggest I've seen is 1 3/4 ounces, or 766g.
I think the real answer lies in Ed Hubel's 12GA from hell (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=178655).

I know he got a 1050gr slug to 2600 fps, don't know how much higher he went.

That is what I was refering to. He told me Greg Sappington makes the slugs.

1 grain = 0.06479891 grams

1 ounce = 437.5 grains

Just go to google and type in

x (units of measure) in (units of measure)

It converts mass, distance, time, etc
