Illuminated tac scope for my FAL

What I would really like is the bargain-priced ($300) IOR Valdada M1/M2 scope with the ranging reticle, but instead of having a fixed 4x magnification, I would rather have the 1-4x mag of the CRT scope (which is $600).
The M1/M2 have bullet drop comensators and a nifty ranging reticle for short European-type soldiers.
The CRT has a square reticle that might have ranging abilities, but the info doesn't say. Also, the CRT has adjustable knobs and something on the left side of the scope which is numbered (1, 2, 3, 4) which might be a BDC.
Any comments?

Try the ATN. I own one for my AR and like it well. I beleive it's 5X and illum. It has a choke style range finder/drop comp and they make a model for the 7.62 nato, with interchangeable cams. Around $250-300.
Also, what about the Trilux?:)

I want a scope which has variable power from 1-4x or so.
Do any of those fit the bill?

Not sure to tell you the truth. Mine is not variable. Pretty easy to find on the web though. ATN.com I think?

I've been going threw the same thing for about a year. I wish they made these scopes closer to 35mm or 40mm.

I just called Valdada IOR in Littleton, Colorado. 303-979-4578.
The CRT scope has been majorly updated and no longer resembles what is on the web site. They just got the new version in last week.
It retails for $749, but it should be available at the $600 mark (still steep for my tastes, but there is nothing out there that comes close to my needs).
IOR did away with the tac-knobs. Instead, --from memory-- the reticle has a 10moa circle (outside to outside) with a 4 moa width line and a 1.5 MOA dot. So, you can quickly measure a 10" circle at 100 yards; a 10" circle at 200 yards, and it has other accentric circles for 10" at 300-500 yards. I think it also has stadia for shooting at those distances. Don't quote me. I don't have a pic of the reticle.
Also, he offered to upgrade my old 2.5-10x42 tactical scope to the new version (including ilumination, optics, and sunshade) for just $120. Dang. They really back their products.

Here is the new reticle as found on the DSArms web site (http://www.dsarms.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=VT11426CRTC&storeid=1&image=dsat11426scope.gif)

It lists for $749 but you might be able to find it at http://www.practicaltactical.net for much, much less. I would guess $600, unless this scope's wholesale price is higher than the original version.
The Valdada-IOR line is not up on his web site yet but I understand that he sells them.

Looks like a great scope for the sub$300 money. It is illuminated and has an easy to use ranging reticle.
But its magnification is fixed at 5x. Do the have a 1-5x variable? Thats what I
want.
And....the bullet drop compensator is .223 only. I have a FAL in .308.
HOWEVER
Here is the review I found on epinions.com (http://www.epinions.com/American_Technologies_Network_014X12_631752/display_~reviews)
RickATN 4-12X60 Rifle Scope

Pros: Big objective Lens.
Cons: Cloudy optics, very heavy, poor build quality, Expensive for the quality
I was expecting great things when I unpacked this scope. Thats as good as it got. When I went to install the 300 Win Mag BDC, I noticed it was a 7mm Mag BDC with black paint over the 7mm Mag label, and restampted with 300 Win Mag.
Looking through the scope, it was cloudy for a 60mm objective lens, and had a yellow tint further reducing the light transmission.
The adjustable magnification ring would not turn if the rear scope ring was tightened up. I had a choice to use the magnification ring and leave the scope loose in the rear ring, or tighten it and have a fixed power scope.
The illuminated reticle was so dim, it could only be seen properly in pitch darkness. This was with new batteries.

I received an e-mail from Scott Powers who does reviews for SniperCountry.com
I offer them too, through the PX. $635.
IOR made some positive changes. People will argue the change to the second focal plane but it was a good move based on the old reticle. With the new general purpose combat reticle (calling it a CQB reticle is a misnomer) the scope could now have been used with the thing mounted in the first focal plane because at 1x the donut would still be very appearent. No matter. It works very well either way. I still think it needs better markings on the turrets but that would, in a way, be counter to the intent of the scope. It is a general purpose combat scope, meant for fast snap shooting. Not meant for long range sniper type operations. It is very good at CQB work right on out to about the max distance an infantryman can expect to engage a target. So once you set your zero the current turret makes sense in that it does not entice you to play with it. A good thing for regular infantry/door kicker type work. All in all I am pretty happy with it. I hope to get one for my deer rifle at some point. Makes an excellet scoep for hunting. At least here in PA where the longest shot you are likely to get is 200 yards if you are lucky. I'd be comfortable shooting to about 400 yards with a 4x scope on game. So there is little actualy need for a 3-10x on a deer rifle around here. :)

I disagree on the AtN; mines a good scope...no probs. I have a pile of optics to judge by too. However I have no experiance with the switch BDC one, only the 5.56 version. At $200 it is a lot of scope for the money. Probably not what your after though as it is fixed 5X.
