In my research on juvenile possession i have found that in general, gun owners don't know the laws. The least knoledgeable tend to be police FFL holders.

Here's my logic:
Possession age (I believe) is un-defined in laws for both long guns and handguns. As far as purchase goes, whether it's from an FLL or private party ("legal" purchase from a responsible private party), it's treated the same under federal law, hence answers to 2&3 and 5&6 should be the same.

Not true, purchases from individuals and from federal licensees are legally distinct. Well, you're probably right, from legal standpoint, but from gun-buying legal age requirement standpoint, they are (I think), and should be the same.

According to your rules, a 16 year old can buy a handgun in a private seller but not from an FFL holder. Correct?

I would have to agree that officers tend to know the least. I have encountered at least two of Manassas' finest in personal/social settings who thoroughly believed that magazines over 10 rounds were completely illegal.

3.FEDERAL AGE RESTRICTIONS

i have to rework some things. I was just told that POSSESSION of a handgun under 21 is a felony. This if the most highly contested part of my research so i'm contacting the BATF to have an answer once and for all.

Possession under 21 definitely isn't Federally illegal. Almost all of my pistol team is under 21, and we're a recognized university event - I'm certain that our school's lawyers would have found out and killed the team if minor possession was illegal.

Edit: At any rate, this whole thread proves you point pretty darn well. The laws are so friggin' screwy that even this crowd can't agree on what they mean.

Anyway, the person who told me under 21 possession of a handgun is a felony is a FFL i talked to. He says the information came straight from a BATF agent...so i'm getting a letter, because i know i'm right, but i like to play it safe....and have FU papers.

In TX there is no law that says any legal age to posess a handgun

However, according to FEDERAL law you have to be 18 to own and 21 i think to buy

So if u were 18 and wanted a handgun you would have to ask your parents to buy one and then transfer it to you as a gift, which is legal
