Loose-packed "serious" ammo?

Am I right to have reservations about buying 124 +P Gold Dots in loose-packed boxes? Ammoman has a great price on them, but they're packed like this (http://www.ammoman.com/IMAGES/Speer_9-124P_1.jpg).

They're packed like that for a reason - and you'll notice Speer says on the container that they're NOT for law enforcement use. They had a problem with their QC a while back on Gold Dots. These are great for practice ammo, but I wouldn't trust my life to them if I had access to regular carry ammo. YMMV...

The primers looked inset on a couple of them....

I believe they're repacks of recall lots due to intermittant primer failures.
Ask Eric at Ammoman - he'll give you the straight scoop - conservative appraisal if my experience is typical. I was thinking they'd be great to practice with if the non-recall stuff is your carry ammol.

I bought 500 rounds, use 'em only at the range.

The repacks are ammunition that had somekind of QC problem some of it was because of primers (1:100000) would not fire. Another was for some flaw in the nickel plating. Its good practice ammo but I wouldn't trust it to carry.

To date I've shot up ~1250 rounds of the stuff (5 50 rd boxes from CTD, 4 250 rd boxes from ammoman)..
Made for good practice ammo before I picked up my dillon :).. Seemed pretty consistent to me, no failures to go boom either.
edited to add; this was regular 9mm gold dot's, not the +p

From packing.org - the recalled batches:
J26Gxx to J30Gxx (September 2001)
K01Gxx to K31Gxx (October 2001)
L01Gxx to L30Gxx (November 2001)
M01Gxx to M31Gxx (December 2001)
A01Hxx to A31Hxx (January 2002)
B01Hxx to B28Hxx (February 2002)
C01Hxx to C01Hxx (March 2002)
Also the labels will be a part number for specific breeds of ammo. The ONLY Gold Dot parts numbers being recalled are:
53612 9mm 115 gr. +P+
53614 9mm 115 gr.
53617 9mm 124 gr. +P
53618 9mm 124 gr
53619 9mm 147 gr
53730 9mm 124 gr. (US Govt Spec and Sales)
53947 .40 165 gr. (Mostly sold to BATF)
53961 .40 155 gr.
53962 .40 180 gr.
53970 .40 165 gr. (US Govt Spec and Sales)
I'm just finishing up my first 1000 rounds of 124 grain +P. No failures.
None of the batch numbers on the boxes I received matched the recall.
I've also gone though 250 rounds of .40 S&W 155 grain. No failures
This is good practice ammo, but wouldn't be bad to have around if you ever needed to grab a case in a hurry and run from the Terminator or something.
I repack it in 50 round boxes and mark it as practice ammo. I don't use it for carry, but it's cheap, and hasn't failed me yet. So? Is it really seconds, or just labeled that way so they can sell off some bulk without making their distributors angry at the price?
Regards, Keys
