Pro Mag or factory? Factory blue at CDNN is 40 bucks, but the Pro Mag is 13. Which would you choose?

I have a .44 Mag Pro-Mag and the factory magazines are MUCH better quality but the Pro-Mags do seem to function fine. The basepad is plastic and the follower is cheaper.

My Pro-Mag sticks and rubs in the the magazine well but doesn't have any failures to feed or other issues. If you were to run into a problem it would most likely be that the follower wouldn't hold open the slide. I say this because the follower tilts more in the mag and the hold-open tab is a slightly differant shape.

It functions well enough that my .44 factory mag that came with my barrel is still in the wrapper. My factory .50 AE mags drop free and don't stick in the mag well.

So, for a basic functional magazine it works. Can't guarantee it's longevity compared to the factory mags, I haven't put that many rounds through mine but one of my .50 mags has seen over 200 rounds through it with no problems so far, just a little finish wear.

You probably spent around a grand on such a nice gun, why skimp on parts and accessories? :)

DO NOT buy the mags from CDNN they are FAKES!

Or, at least the 4 I got from them and sent back!

Pay a little more and get real ones from Magnum research.

Which ones were fakes? The factory or promags?

The fakes were the supposedly factory ones.

They had plastic floorplates, real factory ones don't.

They had the Magnum Reasearch Eagle logo stamped on one side, the real ones don't have that.

They are made of a softer and thinner gauge steel, evident by the distortion of the body caused when stamped with the above mentioned logo.

They also had BENT feed lips.

CDNN also only refunded about 50% of my money when I returned these fakes.

I'll never buy a thing from those theives again.:fire:

Yes it was me.
Today I received an e'mail from CDNN and they are still insisting they are real Mec-Gar.

I am trying to find a US number for Mec-Gar to discuss it with them.

I still don't understand that IF these were in fact made by Mec-Gar why they didn't put their name on them.
Oh wait I remember, it might be because they are EL CHEAPOs and they might be embarassed!

Also, check out their website: http://www.mec-gar.com/

Over at the Desert Eagle forum quite a few people have complained about fakes from CDNN for awhile now.

I really want to know IF these two mags were made by the same company.

I have serious doubts.

Both of these are brand new, never been loaded, never been inserted.

Mec-Gar doesn't put their name on alot of mags they make.

Have you been having functioning problems with the ones from CDNN?

Oh, I forgot to mention I called Magnum Research.

After describing the mags from CDNN to a customer service rep. he said they were fakes.

I'm not trying to stir the pot here, but from my experiences, I felt I had to copy my post from the other thread BluesBear referred to.

I've never had a problem with CDNN. As an aside in response to the other thread, I've got 5 CDNN "factory" Magnum Research DE 50 AE mags that function perfectly, and I can't tell the difference between them and the mag that came with the gun. (Even the label and ziplock bag looked the same as the MRI edition. I've only dealt with MRI directly twice, once for a spare mag before I found out about CDNN, and the other time for warranty clarification, not even warranty service. I'll never deal with MRI again if I can help it. You want poor CS, deal with MRI. I wouldn't trust them enough to call them to hear their answer to any question I might have. You need proof of their rep, go to the Desert Eagle forum and search MRI customer service http://pub64.ezboard.com/fthedeserteaglefrm1 . I'd doubt anything they claim about CDNN selling bogus MRI mags. MRI is completely self-serving and doesn't give a damn about their reputation or CS. ) If the DE mags aren't to one's liking, take it up with CDNN in a civil manner and I doubt if there'll be any complaints about their service.

Anyway, more to the point of this thread, I've bought gun parts, mags, and other hardware and have always been satisfied with CDNN's service.

I have experienced a foulup on one order; the mixup was akin to BluesBear's--what I received didn't look like the pictures I saw in their catalog, and I didn't want to take the chance that the mags didn't work to the potential of OEM equipment. I called them explained the situation; they took my information, asked for some time to do some research, and called me back in a day. They told me the same thing they told BluesBear--the catalog had been printed inadvertantly with the wrong picture. I didn't want the mags, so they agreed to refund me for the mags and shipping. I pointed out that the refund should be for the mags and shipping both ways, and after a very short discussion they agreed. I included a cover letter in the returned shipment asking for the refund plus 2x the shipping costs to cover my entire costs. 8 days after I sent the return, my credit card showed the proper refund.

I suppose my results were more palatable because I was never contentious in my correspondences. I only stated the facts and asked them to rectify the problem fairly. I didn't tell them I got screwed and that I'd probably never buy from them again.

With regard to Magnum Research mags.

I can't speak for the Desert Eagle, but I picked up a bunch of Magnum Research 9mm mags for the Baby Eagle to use in my CZs.

These mags are absolutely identical to a couple of Ramline mags I picked up earlier. They have the same coil spring attached to the follower and mag tub, the same follower, and the same plastic base. Except the MR version has Magnum Research showing on the base plate.

I got these mags from CDNN for $5.99 each, and they have been shot a lot and have been very reliable. (I had heard only horror story about Ramlines prior to that.) I've had so much confidence in these mags that I've used them in IDPA matches. Now, three years later, a few of them are starting to show weak springs, and I'll probably junk them. They were cheap enough that I can. (I tried installing standard Wolff springs and a different follower in a couple, but haven't had good results, yet.)

Magnum Research doesn't make their own mags, and they may change makers from time to time. Indeed, most gun makers don't make their own, but get them from outside suppliers. Some gunmakers use several different mag makers. (On the other hand, Mec-Gar does the best job of any of them, and are sole OEM makers for a lot of gun lines.)

It is VERY LIKELY that CDNN is being completely honest about the "factory" mags they sell... there is nothing "sure" about any factory mag.

(Pro-Mag has made "Factory" mags for CZ and EAA, and others.)

My Factory mags for my CZ-97 says Mec-Gar right on it, directly under thier logo. Also, along the back edge, same side as the logo there is an -A- and .45. The front side of the mag says Made in Italy. The other side of the mag only has markings at the holes to count rounds. There is a 5 and a 10. Plastic floorplate. Perhaps what CDNN is selling is somekind of bulk run from MecGar that is cheaper cause they don't have the markings, and/or maybe those are 'seconds' or scratch and dent mags...would explain the price differences...

As far as the DE mags go: I have a Pro Mag, or maybe it's a USAMag, for my .357. Other than the fact that all they had when I ordered several years ago was the nickel finished ones, it has performed flawlessly in my Mark I.
