If a close combat ocurrs between multiple armed assailiants at the range of around 10-20 meters, would a 12-guage semi-automatic shotguns be more effective or 9mm submachinegun be more effective under the condition that every combatants are wearing IIIA level soft body armor.

In other words, if you encounter a situation where several gang members or robbers broke into your house, and you have no other choice than to fight, would you prefer to use semi-automatic 12-guage shotgun or 9mm submachinegun?

No michine gun for me. Most blow there load to quickly . maybe a nice 5.7x28mm pistol or a little soviet semi rifle in there 5.4mm or 7.62 if armor was warn. But that shotgun with 4 buck can get to legs and heads that might end the fight just as fast. I do have a shotgun with 7 12ga #4buck near by and a witness 9mm with 5 loaded mags with 18rounds each for the house defence.
