Cononach,
Running down the threads it appears that many are interested in discussing topics that relate to everyday issues and that are not necessarily gun related..
Why don't you create a separate section that allows this?
Many of the gun related forums that I frequent have such sections and they don't detract from the integrity of the forums.

We have already considered that. Check the Tech Support forum archives.

Couldn't find out exactly you reasoning for not allowing an off topic section.
I did notice, however, that you have not closed a thread that has gone four pages entitled "world's smallest political quiz."
Might you not be a bit selective in what you call "Off Topic."

There's no perfect description for what would work and what wouldn't -- any borderline topic could go one way or the other because we have humans making the decisions.

Then I suggest closing EVERY thread. That ways there's no doubt that you're getting all of the off-topic ones...
Of course... :D

Do you really see the "Political Quiz" thread as a borderline topic?
Then how about "Nanny State, Parts I & II? Are they also borderline?
I just think you should re-visit your policy of excluding all non-gun related topics even as a separate category.
I am not going to continue pointing out "borderline" threads as it is obvious to all that there are many.
I am merely asking that you please give your policy on this issue another look.

It is being revised as we speak, so we'll have a clear and consistent approach. The moderators are doing their best but I've been inconsistent in my directions to them. So now, with the help of the experienced forum-wranglers, I am figuring out exactly how we will proceed.

Oleg,
Thanks, and God speed.

I always figured that the rules were: posts get moved if they don't seem, in the sole opinion of the-guy-who-pays-the-bills (or his designated hitters), to fit the current forum.
I have wished for more consistent interpretation, but felt it was bad manners to complain -- like coming to dinner, then bitching about the food.
Bravo to Oleg and his mighty minions (or mighty minyan? :) ) for generally doing a good job.
Doubleplusgood that they are rigorizing the guidelines.

Thanks for being open to constructive criticism.
I appreciate all the work it must take to keep something like this going. I am grateful for what I am able to learn and for the opportunity to share on occaision.
Keep up the good work.
