Closing of folders

Lately folders seem to be quickly to be closed with the reason being given that they must be related to civil liberties or firearms.

The description of the folder doesn't say that it must be related to civil liberties or firearms.

Legal and Political
Get informed on issues affecting the right to keep and bear arms and other civil rights. Coordinate activism, debate with allies and opponents. Discuss laws concerning firearm ownership, concealed carry and self-defense.

This is as opposed to the General discussion folder which says it *must* be firearms related.

This is the discription of the folder General Discussion
Meet fellow forum members, find a common ground. Introduce new people to responsible firearm ownership. Posts must be related to firearms. 157219 8073 November 19th, 2003 05:19 PM

So I kind of wish that some moderators would not be so quick on the trigger and stop conversations that posters' wish to have.

Get informed on issues affecting the right to keep and bear arms and other civil rights.

That is part of it. And the rest is:

>>Coordinate activism, debate with allies and opponents. Discuss laws concerning firearm ownership, concealed carry and self-defense. <<

It doesn't say it **must** effect civil liberties and firearms.

Also Iraq, the war, terrorism, all have been debated at length at this forum as they should be.

This is the folder to discuss these issues.

5.) We cannot provide a comprehensive list of "Things Not To Say".Posts that are contrary to the above policies, or to the mission of The High Road, may be edited or deleted at our sole discretion. Membership may be revoked if such a step is deemed necessary by us. We're a private venture enabled by an all-volunteer staff. Please treat this venue as a polite discussion in a friend's home and respect the wishes of the hosts.

Further, we now have a situation in which the existing rules are sporadically enforced. We may be going to the TFL style of running this forum shortly.

Oleg I think the problem is that the rules are being created based on what a particular moderator thinks they should be.

We have had numerous threads about the war on terrorism, Iraq, France, Israel, Arnold Schwartzenager, the presidential election, Al Qaida, Hussein, etc.

It seemed a bit arbitrary to close a thread because it dealt with links between Al Qaida and Hussein, and stating it's off topic.

The way I have understood the mission of the Legal and Political is that it can be about various political and legal topics.

IMO if posters want to post about a particular topic and others want to talk about it as well why interfere with them as long as they are obeying the rules about having a civil discussion?

Nobody who doesn't want to read a thread has to read a thread. I would like to suggest that maximum leeway be given to allowing posters to discuss what political or legal topics they want in the political and legal forum.

In any case Oleg I think you have a great forum.

"We may be going to the TFL style of running this forum shortly."

What's that, dissenters will be shot immediately?

I liked that about Rich. Didn't pull any punches! :D

Oleg's statements on THR We may be going to the TFL style of running this forum shortly. and on Tactical Forums Maybe we can apply the lessons to THR. have me both curioss and concerned. As someone who only found the internet and TFL a week before it closed I do not know how it was run.

A) Curiouss, how was TFL run differntly than than THR ?

B) Concerned, becasue when I refer people to Tactical Forums I warn them about the place, advise them to lurk only and not to ask question or give input and most importantly I do NOT refer newbies ( people who are new in the firearms world ) to tactical forums but rather THR because I believe THR is extremely well run and I highly recomend to to people who are interested in issues and intelligent conversation and for having both a high signal to noise ratio and being friendly, nice and receptive to newcomers to the board who know firearms as well as newbys who do not know firearms or who know little about them but are trying to learn and while doing so ask repettetive simple questions.

Is the concern the amount of "noise" i.e. repetive, silly, stupid questions?
Or are there other issues that I am missing?

If some one could elucidate for me it would be greatly appreciated.

I consider this board to be superb as it is, and I again thank you Oleg for creating and the Moderators for running a most EXCELLENT board.

Editted to add, Oleg just read your new post. Thank you for clarifying.

To further clarify, the idea of emulating Tactical Forums was not adopted. The main focus of the changes is to keep the site from being flooded by off-topc, juvenile posts and also to enforce civil conduct a little mroe consistently.
