Remember this thread?? Started by Werewolf ...

Well Bluesbear referred to ankle rig he'd had and seemed couldn't replace. Scarface replied that he had taken over the old Company and was now marketing the ''Ankle Pocket'' .... http://www.anklepocket.com

I keep looking for better and better rigs of all sorts and felt this looked like well worth a try. I already have more rigs than I need and can use but it is all part of the search for (my personal) ''ultimate'' in each category.

I went to the site and placed an order. Next thing was Buck (Scarface) emailed me back saying Got your order, thank you. I'd love to send you one, but I can't recommend carrying a P95 in one. That's just too much pistol. Well, that impressed me straight off - he was very keen i didn't purchase something that would not do the job. I wrote back and said - no sweat ... it'll be for SP-101 or Bersa Thunder - NOT P95!! .... the Thunder tho he said he had no real experience with in the rig but was interested in feedback.

OK so - Ankle Pocket arrived yesterday and gave it a good workout today - after changing into some good baggy jeans and also wore some long socks ... needless to say, there needs to be a good amount of space. Lawdog suggested too in the other thread it was worth getting tailor or someone to cut the pants leg by the rig and sew on a velcro release section ... sounds like a sound idea to me.

Have just gotten back from a drive ... which included a visit to Wally World as well as smaller stores ..... plus a quick stop in a restaurant ... plenty of walking and sitting.

Well - comfort??? Incredible!! Really. I still have it on now and I guess it has been on most of day now.

The Thunder is maybe a tad large .. not for the rig I hasten to add, tho people may like to avail themselves of a velcro extension piece to ensure that their retaining strap reaches far enough .. mine is adequate (just) without needing that. I removed the std Bersa mag (which has a rubber add-on at base) and used instead a spare (from Natchez) .. makes for a bit less to stick out.

Weight factor was no real problem .. and as I already often have a slight limp sometimes ... this whole deal seemed to ''fit in'' rather well.!! Was slightly over aware and cautious re pants hangin up .. gettin outa truck, sittin in restaurant etc .. but pants long enough and it only really showed much (to me - prolly not to others) when if I sat and tucked my leg back in under chair - in which case somewhat of a bulge!

Here's a pic just taken .... I think this will be a very much used rig at times . and have little doubt the SP-101 will suit fine too ... probably even better. I forget price right now but ... it sure seemed well acceptable to me.

I have no vested interest in writing this up ...... other than to give my thoughts on what I consider thus far to be an excellent product ... and good service. Why not tell others I reckon!! :)

Ankle holsters are junk. Too hard to get at in a hurry. There's a good chance you'll fling the gun across the floor while doing your banking. You'll have nearly two pounds hanging off your ankle. The only upside is they look cool in movies.

Too hard to get at in a hurry Up to a point Sunray - yeah. But if a velcro release is sewn in to a slit then this will help, plus for me it is not my primary carry choice - purely because of position. It makes for a good secondary .. plus concealment can be good.

Then on occasions too where there is little other choice - it is, has gotta be ... better some gun than no gun at all.

Whatever you think on this mode of carry ... this IS one comfortable rig .... that is sure.

Ankle holsters are junk. Poppycock!
Anyone who would agree to this statement has obviously never carried a firearm in a GOOD ankle holster. All holsters are not created equal.
But then I have found by watching people try them on that most people have no idea as to how they should be properly worn.

And ankle carry will never be appropriate for a Desert Eagle, leastways not on a human ankle. Large Pachyderm perhaps, but not a human.

I carried a S&W 49 or 40 in a good ankle holster for a decade.
NEVER lost it and that included being in a ½ mile foot chase.
Didn't make me limp either.

I agree that they're not the fastest rig in the world. They're meant for concealment and suprise. And you'd be suprised how fast I could draw from it especially while sitting down. ;)

Since the company that made mine is long gone I think I'll have to try the ankle pocket.

P95Carry and Bluesbear, I agree with you. I carry my bug in my boot and OCCAISIONALLY that is the only thing I can carry for wardrobe or "huggin' group" reasons.

Ankle carry is better than no carry any day as far as I am concerned, and it is a secure way for me to carry my bug.

This product might have some potential in my stable of holsters.

How is your anklepocket working out? I am thinking about getting
one for my SP101 2.25.
Thanks in advance!

xjer ....

I have only used it intermittently since i got it but can still say it has to be well up there for comfort. I do get hot easily and maybe at times have found my leg under it feeling a tad too warm!!

It will for me always be a back-up/''special occasions'' rig but for that I am well pleased. My SP has pretty much been where it usually is .. OWB 5 o'clock ..... and it is mostly the Thunder that has been in the rig.

Providing pants are big enough then concealment is no prob . and I do not find walking any hassle with it on ... and on balance I'd say SP-101 is a bit easier to carry in it and conceal. When I get it . my P-3AT will sit even better I expect.

I still feel unused to an ankle rig .... probably always will - but doubt any other would feel any better. I have to remember when I get up from sitting or get out of truck ... to shake down pants leg .... just in case. In reality, most of the time that is hardly needed.

So - if an ankle rig appeals to you ... I doubt very much this will disappoint.
