Read through the 1st post in this forum (the "sticky" thread) by dfariswheel. Any and all ideas and ways to do it are in there. I believe at some points specific issues of the Moisin stocks are addressed.

I am in the process of refinishing one right now. Applied the second coat of stain about an hour ago. :) Bombay Mahogany Satin... I do enjoy dark wood.

I used a clear poly after I strip and cleaned the stock on mine. It came outt very nice. A bit liter then i wanted, but it was my first.

I heard someone say not to sand under the barrel bands cause it will ruin the stock, is this true?

I think the point is not to remove much wood under the barrel bands or else they will be loose.
