My MSAR STG-556 experience

I felt the need to relate this, mostly because I like sharing whenever I get treated well by a company.

I recently purchased an STG-556 through a local FFL, I was pretty excited, and had never owned a bullpup configured rifle. Fit and finish looked excellent, and I was pretty happy with my purchase. I got it out to the range, and thats when I noticed it seemed to have a lot of end-play in the barrel. I could wiggle it back and forth and in a slight turning motion a good 1/16th of an inch. A friend of mine also bought one, and I checked his, no such wobble. We tried swapping barrels, mine locked in tight in his, but his barrel had the same problem in mine. It was enough to shift point of impact quite a bit at the 25 yards I was shooting at.

I decided it was time to give MSAR a call. I talked to a very nice guy named Dave at MSAR. I described the problem, gave a few details he asked for, and he asked me to send in the upper receiver with barrel. I sent it off as soon as I could, which took a little while with the schedule lately (I'm Active Duty) and gave him a call a few days later. Apparently a bushing and two related screws were left out during the manufacturing process, resulting in the wobble I experienced. It's a new rifle, from a company that's new to making firearms, and everyone makes a mistake here and there so I was pretty happy it was a simple fix. Dave told me he'd throw in a few extras for my trouble, and he'd have it shipped that day.

I got my rifle back today after playing tag with UPS. I was expecting a hat or a T-shirt which would have been pretty cool. Dave didn't just throw in a few extras, he added 5 new 30 round MSAR/AUG magazines, the new E4 stock, and added accessory rails to it. I'm pretty stunned. It's like Christmas, and more than makes up for any amount of problems I had with the rifle initially. Can't recommend them enough, and the rifle is a LOT of fun.

Talk about great customer service!

It's too bad all gun companies don't respect their customers this much:(

Sounded like a horror story in the beginning but it turned out great! Good CS!

Oh and I don't have one, or have one on the way, but I'd like one.

Especially hearing about this, this dramatically jumps this rifle up my to-buy list.

Dave and MSAR treat everyone like this...and create really loyal customers this way. I have a MSAR E4 and really like it (I didn't think I would like a bullpup but wanted to try it out). Good company, good service.

I knew MSAR had good customer service, but damn , that is far beyond anything I have ever heard.

I have had two MSARs and did not like them. This however was mainly to do with the basic design of them being bullpups and had nothing to do with the quality of the rifles themselves. I just do not like bullpups I guess ( exceptions being the PS90).

Will definitely be getting one in the 7.62x39mm variant as soon as they come out...unless I can get a Kel-Tec RFB first, in which case I will still get the MSAR, but wait a little while. Great to hear that they have good CS, that means a lot. I spoke to Dave on the phone a week or so ago and while he wouldn't give me a hard and fast date on the 7.62 variant, he did say that it would be out soon and that they were making a few improvements to make sure that it would fire steel cased commie fodder without any hiccups. I applaud the good CS and not making promises of delivery only to delay again and again like Kel-Tec.

Wow, if I ever buy an MSAR, I will have confidence that I'll be well taken care of. That level of customer service is even above Mark LaRue!

Very nice!

I've really been wanting to get an MSAR E4 ever since nutnfancy did his SHOT vid at the Microtech booth.

Good to know their CS rocks.

So how does it shoot? Have any targets you can post?

(1000th post! yeay! :p )

Great ending. I own the E4 model and really like it. The ONLY complaint/problem is that sometimes the first or second round from a magazine won't fire, causing me to eject the magazine and rechamber/reseat the bolt. Anyone else have that problem?

With my luck, I can go to a gun show/shop and buy the only firearm there that has a problem. My STG-556 has been excellent since day one. Why did my "luck" fail me now?
