I am getting ready to load some 40 S&W with 180gr round nose Billy Bullets - what should the OAL be?

True round nose .40 S&W bullets are a rarity, so load data is hard to find. Most all of them are TCFP, not RN.

However, the correct OAL with RN for your gun would be:
Seat long, and keep making them shorter until the bullet stops hitting the rifling leade before they will fully chamber.

In otherwords, take the barrel out and use it as a guage to set the OAL for your gun.

SAAMI specifications for this round are 1.125 to 1.135 inches.

You can seat by the adjusting your OAL to be just short of the rifling lands however you may find this length too long for you magazines.

All the Best,

Like RC said, just keep in mind to use the starting load and work up from there.let your gun be your guide.

Are you shooting a Glock ??? My G23 and G27 do the same thing. I reload them with no problem.
